1936 C.F. Martin & Co F-7 left-handed conversion archtop guitar, made in USA, ser. no. 6xxx5; Back and sides: Brazilian rosewood, various scratches and further imperfections as to be expected for age, old pickguard screws filled; Table: tobacco sunburst, section refinished from top to lower treble bout, various further imperfections as to be expected for age including a few very minor hairline cracks; Fretboard: ebony, some chipping from refret work; Frets: good, refret; Electrics: later fitted De Armond floating pickup wired through the f-hole and out of the end pin; Hardware: later Lefty pickguard, later bridge; Case: period hard case; Weight: 2.45kg; Overall condition: good for age *The F-7 model was Martin Guitars' relatively brief attempt in the 1930s to compete with Gibson archtop guitars. There were 187 F-7s made, although it is roughly estimated that only around one quarter of these guitars exist in their original form; this is because, during the folk movement in the USA in the 1960s, there was a desire for Martin 0000 sized flat tops so a number of these archtops were converted to flat top by US luthiers. It is estimated that sixty or so F-7 and F-9 archtops are left in their original form and are therefore amongst the rarest Martin guitars to exist. This example was converted by the vendor to left-handed, a conversion that can be easily switched back
