A Charles II oval walnut gateleg table, circa 1670, 75cm high, the top 112cm x 42. Provenance: Formerly part of the collection of George Demaine Haslam, a wealthy businessman in the cotton trade who set about furnishing Dunham Knowle, Cheshire in the 1920's. Demaine Haslam purchased much of his furniture collection from Mallett, Partridge and other prominent dealers during that period. He later moved to Danehurst, Daneshill, West Sussex. A Victorian coromandel, macassar ebony, amboyna, bone and satinwood marquetry breakfast table, circa 1870, almost certainly by Jackson and Graham, stamped to the underside 2/ 2065, 72cm high, the top 120cm diameter. The firm of Jackson & Graham was established in 1836 by Thomas Jackson and Peter Graham at 37 Oxford Street London, and for the next fifty years they produced predominantly high quality furniture, representing Britain at many of the international exhibitions. Their clients included Queen Victoria, Napoleon III, the Grand Khedive at Cairo and the royal palace in Siam. They were particularly noted for their fine marquetry work, the use of Wedgwood plaques, ivory inlay, rare woods, and fine casting of bronze mounts. They engaged the leading designers of the period including Owen Jones, Bruce Talbert, Alfred Lorimer and Eugene Prignot. The company's workforce and assets were bought by Collinson and Lock in 1885.
