A fine Chinese export Japanned lacquer sewing table, having delicately and well painted gilt designs to whole, hinged top to reveal lacquered and pierced ivory covered compartments, above a slide material compartment, on four turned legs and four claw feet united by a stretcher, 64cm wide by 73cm high, damages the top is quite faded and scratched and also a piece of the lacquer is mssing to the rear, there are also further damages present and overall it is in need of attention to bring it to its former glory and true potential

Mid 19th Century Larch root circular snap top breakfast table having a quartered top and standing on a turned bulbous pillar and tripod scroll supports, the top of the base with a detachable inset framed printed plaque ‘Larch Root from Sir William Stewart Bart, Murthly, Made by Peter Imrie, Perth’, 130cm diameter. It is somewhat surprising to learn that Sir William Drummond Stewart, 7th Baronet of Murthly is revered in the United States as a pioneer of the American Wild West. Born in 1795, by his mid twenties he was a captain in the 15th Kings Hussars and a recipient of the Waterloo Medal. On leaving the army he made his first journey to the unexplored lands beyond America’s frontier, which he would visit many times over the next two decades. He employed artists, writers and botanists to record his trips on which, as well as unknown flora and fauna, medicines and herbs were also discovered. On inheriting the Murthly estate following the death of his brother he proceeded to fill the house with artefacts gathered on his travels. A small Regency mahogany sofa table, each flap with rounded corners and fitted with three frieze drawers with brass knob handles and cockbeading to each drawer front, the end supports united by a turned stretcher and raised on four downswept legs terminating in brass paw castors.
