Y A George III mahogany and rosewood cross banded dining table, late 18th century, the oval top with twin drop flaps above square section tapering supports, 72cm high, 154cm long, 153cm wide (open) Provenance: By direct descent from Lady Enid Doreen Scudamore-Stanhope Browne (1899-1985), daughter of The Hon. Evelyn Theodore Scudamore-Stanhope and Julia Dasha Potter. Lady Enid was granddaughter of Henry Edwyn Chandos Scudamore-Stanhope, 9th Earl of Chesterfield and sister to Edward Henry Scudamore-Stanhope, the 12th and last Earl of Chesterfield, born on 9 February 1889. In December 1926 she married, Major Alexander Browne of Callaly Castle, Northumberland. The family homes included Beningbrough Hall, York and Holme Lacy, Herefordshire.Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasion commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. Lozenge of replacement veneer inset to the top (see images). Some sections of moulding to the tops of the legs are lacking. Filler used to the top to help disguise scratched and splits. Slight movement within joints of table. Brass elements with some dents and slightly misshapen areas. The edge of the top lifting slightly in places and with some securing tacks lacking.
