A fine George III ebonised table clock by Higgs and Evans London, circa late 18th century, the hour striking movements with five pillars, the strike rack controlled on a bell with twin fusee movement and verge escapement, the arched silvered dial with strike-silent subsidiary dial, above Roman and Arabic numerals, signed Higgs and Evans London to the centre, date aperture below, foliate engraved gilt metal back plate, with brass carry handle, raised on brass bracket feet with key, dial 15.5cm wide x 34cm high, repairers marks on the back of dial reads 'T Clark 1799', and others later indistinctFootnote: Higgs and Evans were first established in Sweetings Alley and later Royal Exchange from 1775-1825. This was the firm of Robert Higgs, Peter Higgs and Jas Evans. Jas Evans was working in London from 1749, Robert and Peter Higgs from 1770.
