A set of six Victorian silver table-forks and six dessert-spoons, by James Barber and William North, York, 1839 and 1840, Old English pattern, each later engraved with an initial, 21oz 15dwt (12) . Each fully marked on stem. The dessert-spoons and one table-fork have the 'D' date letter for 1839, the remaining table-forks have the 'E' date letter for 1840. There is some unevenness under the engraved initial where the pieces have perhaps been erased and the later engraving added. There is otherwise some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use.
