Lot 780

An Early Tabernacle Form Gilt Brass Striking Table Clock, case possibly German, mid-17th Century, later movement restored in 1965 which still retains some 17th century parts, tabernacle form case with a restored top gallery supported on four tapered columns, foliate cast and chased plinth base, raised upon bun shaped feet, silvered Roman numeral dial with an inner quarter hour track and a foliate engraved centre, single tulip-shaped steel hand, the rear silvered Arabic dial is for the strike, now with a custom-made twin gut fusee movement, square section brass pillars, verge escapement, rear mounted bob pendulum, striking on a top mounted bell, 29cm high see illustration This clock was sold in ''The Albert Odmark Collection of Important Clocks and Watches Sale'' Christie's, London 11th March 2005, lot 422.12.02.18, The gilded surfaces are nicely aged and discoloured, case mid-17th century, both silvered dial are discoloured. The movement was restored by Keith Davies in 1965, the movement still retains the original top and base plates and square pillars, both the going and striking trains are replacements, later verge escapement, and now converted to bob pendulum, the strike train striking the bell housed in the restored gallery cupola above the dials via a hammer carried on a vertical steel arbor, clock in going order.

It is not hallmarked or stamped, valued as platinum. The ring is accompanied by a GIA Gemological Report Ruby Origin Report by the Gemological Institute of America, GIA Report 6173695030, dated July 15th, 2016, stating that the ruby weighs 2.89 carat, geographic origin: Burma (Myanmar), with no indications of heating. The ruby measures 9.81mm x 7.54mm x 4.42mm as per the GIA report. The ruby is of pink red colouration. There are usual inclusions, fairly heavily included with some surface reaching fractures to the table. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour H/I, clarity SI1/SI2. Gross weight 4.2 grams. Condition Report made 8th February 2018.

A Diamond Three Stone Ring, old cushion cut diamonds in claw settings, to knife edge shoulders, total estimated diamond weight 1.80 carat approximately, finger size Q1/2 see illustration The ring is in good condition. It is stamped with marker's mark 'S.B&SLD' and stamped 'PLAT', valued as platinum. The diamonds measure 4.5mm x 5.63mm x 3.37mm = 0.55 carat approximately; 5.44mm x 4.5mm x 3.45mm = 0.54 carat approximately and 5.73mm x 5mm x 3.74mm = 0.69 carat approximately. The largest diamond (outer) has a very deep table and sits high compared to the other two diamonds. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour I/J, clarity VS2/SI1, I1, one outer diamond has a chip from the girdle to crown. Gross weight 3.5 grams. Condition Report made 26th January 2018.

From a subjective viewpoint only, the colour is very close to white, no inclusions detected through the table under 10x magnification.
