A Victorian mahogany extending dining table with two leaf insertions, the rounded rectangular top with a gadrooned edge, raised on carved cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet 153cm wide, 75cm high, 213cm long, 319cm long extended Provenance: Sir George Harrison, Lord Provost of Edinburgh and thence by descent to the present owner. Note: Sir George Harrison (1811-1885) was an Edinburgh merchant and Lord Provost from 1882-1885. He was responsible for the acquisition of Blackford Hill by the Corporation of Edinburgh. In 1885 he was elected MP for Edinburgh South but died a month later. By family repute, this dining table was part of the furniture with which Sir George furnished the city chambers with during his time in office and was used in one of the principal rooms.
