With beautiful, engraved title page depicting Virgil, Caesar Augustus, Calliope, Clio and obviously Aeneas. Pages in good conditions with some yellowing and damp stains. In Latin. 759 pages with numbers and table of contents. Ligature of early 20th century with hard cover and back partially reinforced with canvas and featuring gold impressions. The flyleaf features a long dedication dated 'June 1948' and handwritten by Hemingway, in which the author speaks about his state of depression and about his intention to kill himself, and mentions that he is working on 'The Old Man and the Sea'. The owner was a friend of Hemingway; they met in Italy during the First World War.Provenance: owners' heirs. The volume has always been owned by the family. height 34,5 cm.

Gioacchino Greco (um 1600 - 1634) war der bedeutendste Schachmeister des 17. Jahrhunderts. Das Neue an seiner Abhandlung über das Schachspiel war, dass er intuitiv das Wesen des Kombinationsspiels erfasste. Auch heute noch zählen seine Bücher zum Rüstzeug jedes Turnierspielers. "Grecos Matt" ist in die Schachgeschichte eingegangen. Im Jahre 1625 überarbeitete er seine Abhandlung, und erwähnte erstmals die neue Form der Rochade. Das überarbeitete Handbuch erschien erst nach seinem Tode. Hier eine der mehreren erschienenen Ausgaben mit der Verwendung seines Textes. (Vergl. v. d.
