NO RESERVE Africa.- a small quantity of both albumen and other prints and engraved or etched plates, depicting exploration and travel, the prints with views of Cairo, Oyo (Benin), Uganda, South Africa (including Table Mountain), and others of unidentified locations, the plates showing hunters in Borneo, The Luangwa River, a village in Sierra Leone, Hottentot society and rituals, Alexandria, and the attack by the Dutch on St George's Castle on the Gold Coast (this last hand-coloured and taken from Mallet's 1683 Description de l'Univers, the other plates dating 18th or early 19th-c.), some prints mounted to card, some ink stamps to reverse, some soiling and faint foxing, card mounts with nicks and closed tears, plates with marginal browning and foxing; and some related ephemera, 4to et infra, v.d. (Qty)⁂ Including some interesting catalogues: the Barber sale included 2 copies of Jacquin's Stapeliarum of 1806 (the last copy of which made £130,000 at auction), Bain bought all the orchid lots; the Great Auk's egg (lot A) made £304 10s.. on the last item John Collins notes at the beginning "The [Königliche Gartenbibliothek] sale never took place. Bound in at the end of this copy is the print out produced by Christies when they were trying to sell the collection en bloc to Sheikh Saud. Maggs were asked to advise him & we recommended the purchase which would have been in the region of 3K. At that stage the books were at Exbury the Rothschild house on the Solent. They had been bought by the Rothschilds for Charlotte R. on account of the music & the garden books came along for the ride. Also a fine military library - I don't know what happened to this".
Food & drink.- Moxon (Elizabeth) English housewifery, exemplified in above four hundred and fifty receipts, giving directions in most parts of cookery; And how to prepare various Sorts of Soups, Made-Dishes, Pastes, Pickles, Cakes, Creams, Jellies, Made Wines, 2 parts in 1, 'twelfth edition, corrected', 8 woodcut table settings on 5 ff., of which 2 folding, repairs to folding woodcuts, some foxing and staining, modern calf-backed cloth, spine gilt, [Bitting pp.333-334 (note); Maclean pp.104-106; Oxford p.78], Leeds, printed by Thomas Wright, for William Fawdington; and sold by Scatcherd and Whitaker , Ave-Mary Lane ; William Bent, Pater-Noster-Row, London ; and by most Booksellers in Great Britain, 1785.⁂ A scarce edition. The second part is the fifth edition of a 'Supplement to Moxon's Cookery'.

A GOOD 19TH CENTURY FRENCH PARQUETRY AND ORMOLU WORK TABLE, the rising top inlaid with a stylized leaf decoration, enclosing a mirror and lift out tray, a similarly inlaid frieze with work box on turned, fluted, tapering legs united by an "X" shaped stretcher (Stamped GIROUX). 63cms wide x 44cms deep x 74cms high.
A VERY GOOD LOUIS XVI STYLE FRENCH MARQUETRY AND ORMOLU CENTRE TABLE, the shaped top inlaid with floral swags and classical trophies, with a similar frieze having one drawer, supported on curving legs with female mask mounts and claw feet. 140cms long x 86cms wide x 77cms high.
