Folio, limp vellum, containing copies of six letters sent by the Lord High Treasurer of England, 1569-1662, ordering officers of the Exchequer to attend upon him with their clerks, manservants, armour, horses and furniture. Letters cover 10 sides. With a drawing on parchment of a round table, below which is written ' This forme of the Exchequer is in an old book remaining in the custodie of the Treasurer and Chamberlayne of the Exchequer'. Written in pencil below is ' Given me by Mr Austin of the King's Bench Office'.Most of the leaves in the book are blank. 'Ex Craven Ord MSS' and 'Phillipps MSS 21727' written on fly leaf.With several loosely inserted pages of hand written notes.Provenance:Provenance: From the collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps, Bt. (1792-1872). Given by Mr Austin of the King’s Bench Office to Craven Ord (1756-1832), antiquary. Probably acquired by Phillipps at the sale of Ord’s manuscripts in January 1830, where Phillipps was a major buyer. Following Phillipps’ death in 1872 there was a series of sales at Sotheby’s, when the manuscript passed into the hands of Worcester antiquary Joseph Bowstead Wilson (1841-1911), rector of Knightwick, Worcs. Thence by descent.
