Fine 18th century French violoncello attributed to and labelled Lagetto, Maitre Luthier, A la Ville de Cremone, á Paris, 1776, also stamped below the button on the back, the two piece back of very faint broad curl with plainish wood to the sides and geometric dot carved decoration to the head, the table of a medium width grain and the varnish of a light reddish-brown colour on a golden ground, 29 1/8", 74cm, hard case *This violoncello is sold with a certificate of authenticity from Caressa et Francais dated 30th March 1920; also the instrument is accompanied by a bill of sale from John & Arthur Beare dated 18th September 1957 for £55, describing the instrument as an old violoncello of the Paris School by Lagetto, dated 1767. *This violoncello has had several table repair cracks, there are other more minor repairs to the back and ribs. An Edwardian mahogany and inlaid display cabinet with single glazed door over a bow fronted cupboard door, together with an Edwardian mahogany and inlaid two tier occasional table CONDITION REPORTS Whilst basicly sound, there is marking to top cornice, the main door has crack to the glass, top right panel bottom corner, the door is not inlaid, cross banded unlike the frame work, the bow fronted door frame also has no inlay although the panel is inlaid. There is denting and scuffing through out the main body to sidepanels and legs. See images for further detail. The top of the bow fronted section has some discolouration to the front corner.
