Fleetwood Charles Varley (1863-1942) for The Guild of Handicrafts (?), a large spot-hammered and patinated rectangular copper table box, early 20th century, the hinged overhanging top inset with a hard enamel panel decorated with a cascading upland river landscape, signed lower right 'Varley', the cedar-lined box supported by simple bun feet. 35 cm x 22 cm x 9cm high.A private collection.The artist and enameller Fleetwood Varley (British 1863-1942) was a friend of C.R. Ashbee and worked at the Guild of Handicraft at Chipping Camden and is known to have collaborated with Ashbee on some of his works. His work for Haselers was most often sold through Liberty & Co. in London.The top right corner of the enamel plaque is bruised, probably from when it was fitted to the box (see images), with thin street lines visible and indentations at the border. Two further corners with bruises to the enamel. Small dents to the corners of the box. Overall, it is in good structural condition, with only tarnishing marks in places.

The top seems consistent with the timber used for the other components of the table. One of the the expansion buttons that holds the bearers in place has some historic wood worm where sapwood has been touched upon in its manufacture.

A George II figured walnut fusee bracket or table clock by Smallwood, Sandbach, circa 1750, the figured walnut case with ogee caddy top and brass swing handle over the moulded cornice and 17cm square gilt metal dial, with openwork spandrels and silvered chapter ring, applied with Roman and Arabic numerals along with the makers name, centred with matted and chased foliate detail and a crescent shaped date aperture, the four knopped pillar fusee movement striking on a pair of overhead saucer bells, above the foliate engraved back plate with a heart shaped back-cock and bob pendulum, upon ogee bracket feet, 42cm high, 45cm high with handle, running and keeping time at the property (some historic woodworm to the top of the case) Condition report: Please note the clock strikes on a pair of bells indicating the hour, quarter past and half past Historic worm to the rear pediment, along with repairs and small chip. Replaced putty and hinges to front door, 8cm split around the door catch. Veneer repairs around both rear door hinges, rear door 'tight' when closing. Replaced putty to rear door. Similarly, the side panels with replaced putty. General marks, wear and fading commensurate with age and use.
* A 19th century carved oak centre table, the octagonal top with a gadrooned edge and carved foliate openwork frieze, punctuated by carved lion masks, upon barley twist and acanthus baluster supports, extending to bun feet, united by shaped cross stretchers, 71cm H x 109cm D NB, the baluster supports used are the remainder of the balustrade stairway in Tushingham Hall
