A 19th century Scottish `Parrot Coal` dressing table mirror, with arched glass, the C-scroll supports with porcelain beads, on a rectangular base and bun feet, 74cm high x 62cm wide `Parrot Coal` was made in Fife and Lanarkshire. The name derives from the supposed noise made from the burning anthracite which apparently sounds similar to a parrot. This toilet mirror is typical of the mid 19th century, together with tables, chairs and jewellery. The material was used in a variety of fashions.
