A Victorian novelty silver tortoise table bell. Joseph Braham, London, 1895. Realistically modelled with a silver shell and body, the clockwork bell mechanism operated by depressing the head or tail, approx. 17cm long, 5.5cm high Condition Report: The tortoise bell is in good condition commensurate with age. Some minor surface scratching, pitting and nicking noted. A little wear to the decoration (mainly to high points on shell and tail). Hallmarks to shell a little rubbed but clear to underside. Some minor splits and buckling to silver shell noted under 10x magnification. A very slight wobble when standing. A small ding to the underside of one foot. Clockwork mechanism appears to be working - it winds up and the bell rings when tail/head are depressed. Please note that we have not opened the bell so cannot comment on the condition of the internal mechanism. A little rusting/marking noted to the winding bar and some screws. Gross weight approx. 17.7ozt (NB. not silver weight). Overall a lovely novelty piece in good overall condition commensurate with age.
