A carved Swiss Black Forest walnut veneered table, late 19th century, the circular crossganded tilt top with a parquetry decoration of stars within a border of lozenges, pierced and foliate frieze, on baluster column and scrolling tripod base carved with edelweiss, 76cm long, 80cm high (scattered worm damage to border) Provenance: Charles Ethelbert Hillman (d. 1939) who was mayor of Tunbridge Wells in 1938-39. Every Summer he and his family holidayed in Switzerland and are likely to have acquired this table while visiting Italy.
