Old replacement block to top of stem. One stretcher to underside of top has moved to accommodate this leaving behind old vacant screw holes. Some old splits and chips. Some fading and colour variation to top and leaves. Additional abrasions and scuffs to legs. Some later screws securing castors. Some splits to the blocks at the top of the pedestals. One of the blocks at the top of a pedestal may have been historically adapted as it incorporates oak. This element does appear to have age and may only have been partially adapted. The bolts securing one side of each pillar and the fittings associated are later. All clips present. The clips and their fixtures are replacements. Short bearers have been later added to the underside that revolve to support the additional leaf insertions. Top and leaves are original to the bases. A large stained glass panel with the Presentation in the Temple after Hans Memling (fl. Flanders, 1430-1494), probably Flemish, the shaped rectangular panel depicting the Christ Child held by surrounding standing Saints, in an ecclesiastical setting with a chequered pavement and an altar, 102cm high 63cm wideThe present panel reproduces the right wing scene of Northern-Renaissance master Hans Memling's celebrated Jan Floreins triptych. Floreins, for whom the triptych was painted in 1479, was a friar of the Old St John's Hospital in Bruges, where the triptych still hangs to this day (now the collection of the Memling Museum). This Presentation scene is thought to have been set within the architecture of the former Cathedral of St Donatian. Memling's works provided source material for Netherlandish stained glass artists as early as the 16th century, note for example the Netherlandish or German roundel depicting the artists' Adoration of the Magi in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cloisters Collection, 1983.235.Condition Report: The panel bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age.The male Saints each have cracks to the faces, and the Virgin Mary to her scarf.Repairs to the lead in the top corners.Further diagonal crack to the table cloth and one or two further to background areas and costume.While elements of the glass may possibly be earlier, we think it is likely that the panel is broadly 19th century in make.Condition Report Disclaimer

The terrestrial has a few very light surface scuffs to the varnish and the South Pole area shows evidence of slight repair/filling. The celestial also has very light varnish scuffing in places as well as an unfortunate puncture near the south pole where the sphere has been rested on the meridian ring support post. A Regency mahogany double sided 'waterfall' bookcase, circa 1815, by Mack, Williams & Gibton, the square top with raised gallery, above four graduated bookshelves, the frieze beneath incorporating an unusual lockable compartment, on square supports and outswept tapering square legs, terminating in brass caps and castors, stamped with numbers, 9564, 140cm high, 77cm wide, 58cm deep  Provenance: Private collection, Oxford The original partners John Mack and Robert Gibton are listed in the Dublin directories individually from 1784 and 1790, respectively, and appear to have come into partnership from 1803. They were appointed 'Upholsterers & Cabinet Makers to his Majesty, His Excellency the Lord Lieutenant and His Majesty's Board of Works' in 1806 and the firm retained this Royal Warranty for many years, supplying and restoring furniture for important public buildings in Ireland including the Four Courts, the War Office, the Barracks Office, Dublin Castle and the Treasury and Viceregal Lodge. Some of their more distinguished private commissions include Ballynegall, Co.Westmeath, Oakley Park, Co.Meath and Strokestown, Co.Roscommon. As demonstrated by the current bookcase, the firm regularly labelled their furniture, and used a system of an impressed four digit number often together with a letter. PAIR OF VICTORIAN CARVED PARROT COAL BOOTS 19TH CENTURY modelled as tall heeled boots with later red ribbon laces(26cm wide, 20cm high)Footnote: Note: Parrot coal, also known as cannel coal appears to get its name from the sound it makes when burning, a crackling similar to that of a parrot's beak clicking. It was used during the 19th century to make furniture and works of art, due to its similar characteristics to marble. Unlike household coal, it can be carved. Thomas Williamson, a stonemason from West Wemyss, Fife is known for the parrot coal pieces he created during the mid-1800s, including a table, chairs and a toilet mirror, all within the collection at Kirkcaldy Galleries. A garden seat by Williamson was acquired by Prince Albert, and exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851, which is now at Osborne House.
