[Theatrical interest] A 19th century engraved horn beaker, with a plain silver coloured collar and foot rim, unmarked, of a man with an umbrella approaching figures drinking at a table, a large jug inscribed `Ale` and `Paul Pry I Hope I Don`t Intrude I Am Just Dropt In To Take A Horn Of Ale`, 10cm (4in) high. Paul Pry (1825) was the most notable play written by John Poole and continued to be popular until the early 1870s. The storyline is centred on a comical, idle, meddlesome and mischievous fellow consumed with curiosity. Unable to mind his own business, he`s an interfering busybody who conveniently leaves behind an umbrella everywhere he goes in order to have an excuse to return and eavesdrop.
