A Perspex and metal table in the manner of César82cm high; 252cm long; 65cm wideCésar was a French sculptor born in 1921 of Italian parents in theworking class neighbourhood of la Belle-de-Mai in Marseilles. His fullname was César Baldaccini, but he is usually known simply as César. Afterstudying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Marseilles (1935-9) he went on to theEcole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1943-8). He began making sculptures bywelding together pieces of scrap metal in 1952 and first made his reputationwith solid welded sculptures of insects, various kinds of animals, nudes,etc. His early work used soldered and welded metal as well as junkmaterials, and by 1960 César was considered one of France's leadingsculptors. In that year, on a visit to a scrap merchant in search ofmetal, he saw a hydraulic crushing machine in operation, and decided toexperiment with it in his sculpture. He astonished his followers byshowing three crushed cars at a Paris exhibition. It was for these'Compressions' that César became renowned. César was at the forefront ofthe Nouveau Réalisme movement with his radical compressions (compactedautomobiles, discarded metal, or rubbish), expansions (polyurethane foamsculptures), and fantastic representations of animals and insects.82cm.; 32ins high by 252cm.;99ins long by 65cm.; 26ins wide
A George III mahogany D-end extending dining tableOn tapering square supports, 121cm wide x 335cm long extendedOverall, the leaves are quite consistently faded with marks and scuffs, dents and scratches commensurate with age and use. Some old losses along the edges of the central section, along the hinged sides. (See photographs)Clips are a miscellaneous collection, most not fitting. Some of the mounts fixed to the undersides of the leaves to secure to the clips are missing. Two later wood swivel braces applied to the underside of the leaves to secure two together.

A pair of sycamore Corinthian column table lamps20th Century, probably by LinleyThe tapered columns with gilt-metal capitals and raised on stepped square bases, unsigned, with shades 62cm high, excluding fitments (2)Condition report:Overall in very good condition. The odd very small/minor tiny dent or bruise to the sycamore, commensurate with age and use, including two small spot marks towards the back of the stepped plinth which can probably be cleaned off. Dirt and dust to some of the recesses and to the shades, consistent with use and age.Electrical cord has been cut and the lamps will obviously require rewiring correctly to PAT safety standards. The shades are creased in a number of areas (see additional photograph of the most severe crease).The dimensions of the bases are: 20.5cm wide; 21cm deep.

A Provincial low cricket tableWith circular sycamore top on three staked ash supports, 70cm diameter; 45cm highCondition report: The circular top composed of a sycamore plank and two sections of elm/ ash at either side. These are probably later but have been there some time. The whole is banded with bent ash or elm which is pinned in. Overall wear, old scuffs and scratches and extensive worm with subsequent losses, notably to the central plank due. The staked legs are also visible. Initials carved into the top. The bentwood banding with numerous losses and a section coming away with pins exposed. Other parts nibbled due to worm damage. The three legs are loose, with worm holes and the tips of the feet trimmed down.
