A Regency ormolu mounted rosewood and brass marquetry rectangular library table, attributed to John McLean, the well figured oversailing top inlaid to the angles with scrolling leafy tendril brackets, outlined with bands engraved with stiff leaves and flowerhead roundels within a substantial border cast with oval paterae and stiff leaves, the conforming frieze with a rectangular drawer and a blind drawer, divided by a boldly cast 'Green Man' foliate mask, the verso conforming in reverse, end supports each with a pair of turned pillars with egg and dart mounts, ring turned stretcher, sabre legs applied with acanthus leaves and flowerhead paterae, brass lion paw casters, 72.5cm high, 119cm wide, 73cm deep, c.1805 John McLean of Upper Terrace, Tottenham Court Road and 34 Marylebone Street, Piccadilly is listed in the Westminster Poll Book in 1774 and included in Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary of 1803. Trade directories 1809 - 14 give John McLean & Son, upholders, 58 Upper Marylebone Street and from 1814 - 25 give William McLean at the same address who may be a relative. McLean is known particularly for his fine cabinets and desks in the French taste with brass mounts and inlay and advertised that he specialised in 'Elegant Parisian Furniture'Collard, Frances, Regency Furniture, Antique Collectors' Club (Woodbridge 1985), p.332

Local Interest - a pair of salvaged oak table candlesticks, campana sconces, bobbin and ring turned pillars, each base with a label, 'This article is made of oak from the old bell frame of the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Derby . The date on the beam is 1687, this being the time when "the bells were rehung by John Baxter of Laxton, Northamptonshire, Bellhanger, the same being undertaken by George Sorocold, Gentleman". The ten bells were rehung on a steel frame by Messers Taylors of Loughborough, October 1927', later fitted as table lamps, 31cm high, c.1927
