A REGENCY MAHOGANY, KINGWOOD AND SATINWOOD CROSSBANDED AND INLAID SOFA TABLE, the rectangular top with twin drop flap sides with canted corners, with satinwood and ebony stringing, in a border with square running wave inlay, all above twin drawers with turned ivory handles and conforming dummy drawers, the drawers with geometric satinwood stringing on shaped legs with a shaped crossrail and downswept legs with brass animal paw cap castors, 36" wide closed. Light Horse Volunteers. Standing Orders for the Light Horse Volunteers of London & Westminster, London: printed for the Corps, by I. Gold, 1805, 256pp. (including 127 blank pages for additional notes, few with contemp. manuscript annotations), seven folding eng. diags. and twenty-seven tables only (inc. 22 folding, lacks tables 10 & 21), few tables with closed-tears and one folding table torn with loss, eight additional blank leaves bound-in, signature of ‘Charles Herries, Col. L.H.V.’ on the Standing Orders preliminary page, occ. light offsetting, contemp. half calf, recent calf spine, boards rubbed, thick 8vo. Colonel Charles Herries was for twenty-five years Commandant of the Light Horse Volunteers of the City of London and Westminster. Herries was one of five men chosen in 1780 to petition the King to increase the strength of the L.H.V.. Herries became a Lieut-Col. in 1794 and a Colonel on 19 July 1797. He died at Hastings 3rd April 1819, and was buried on the 17th April in Westminster Abbey with military honours. (1)

Vernet (Antoine Charles Horace, called Carle). Campagnes des Francais sous le Consulat & L’Empire Album de Cinquante-Deux Batailles et cent Portraits des Marechaux, Generaux et Personnages les plus Illustres de L’Epoque et le Portrait de Napoleon 1er. n.d. c.1840, engraved portrait frontis. with facsimile signature, title page printed in red & black, fifty- seven uncoloured engraved plates each with paper guard, slight water staining throughout, a.e.g., modern morocco with gilt embossed title to upper board, folio. The plate list calls for a frontispiece as well as a portrait of Napolean. However this example conforms to the description of previous copies sold. It appears that the ‘frontispice’ listed in the ‘Table des Planches’ may refer to the title page. (1)
DAME LAURA KNIGHT FOR CLARICE CLIFF, GROUP OF EIGHT `CIRCUS` DINNER PLATES, DESIGNED 1934. printed and painted in gilt and coloured enamels with clowns, acrobats and performing animals, printed factory marks (8), Note: In 1934, Harrods organised an exhibition called `Modern Art for the Table`, featuring ceramics and glass designed by leading artists of the day, including Paul Nash, Graham Sutherland, Eric Ravilious and Dame Laura Knight. Their creations, which consisted of hand-painted designs for pottery, and cut and engraved patterns on glass, were produced by leading tableware manufacturers such Clarice Cliff (A J Wilkinson`s Ltd, and their subsidiary Newport Pottery) and Stuart Crystal. A year later the merits of this collaboration were displayed once again, this time in a high-profile exhibition at the Royal Academy, called British Art in Industry and the following seven lots were made for this venture.
