Frontespizio al primo volume inciso da Bonaventure-Louis Prévost su disegno di Charles Nicolas Cochin, 2.793 tavole incise e in gran parte ripiegate, 3 tabelle ripiegate (mancano i 2 volumi con la Table analytique et raisonnée, mancano 2 tavole, leggeri aloni in 2-3 volumi, 2 tavole staccate, poche sporadiche leggere bruniture). Legatura coeva in vitellino maculato, fregi fitomorfi e titolo in oro su tassello al dorso, labbri dorati, tagli rossi (piccole mancanze prevalentemente alle cuffie). Timbro araldico di Siraudin ai frontespizi. Bell’esemplare con le tavole in stato molto fresco di questa fondamentale prima edizione che rappresenta un compendio universale del sapere, nonché il primo esempio di moderna enciclopedia di larga diffusione e successo. A CHINESE BRONZE TABLE SCREEN, possibly Ming Dynasty, together with a fitted wood stand, the front of the bronze cast in relief with the Immortal Lan Ts'ai Ho bearing a basket of flowers, the whole with good unpolished patination, the screen as a whole 13.5in(34.2cm) high & 8.4in(21.3cm) wide at widest point, the bronze plaque itself 8.5in(21.5cm) high & 6.1in(15.4cm) wide.
