Mid-Late 16th century AD. A round-section tapering hoop with volute-scrolled shoulders and rectangular plaque; each shoulder with an inset table-cut diamond, the bezel a cell with convergent sides, pellet detail to the underside, scooped ledges to the outer faces, inset table-cut ruby-coloured spinel. Property of a central London collector; acquired from a large private collection formed in the 1980s. Cf. Oman, C.C. Victoria and Albert Museum Catalogue of Rings, reprinted Ipswich, 1993, items 282, 288. 11 grams, 28mm overall, 19.82mm internal diameter (approximate size British T 1/2, USA 9 3/4, Europe 22.0, Japan 21) (1").
