A George IV rosewood revolving drum table by Gillows of LancasterThe plain circular top over a recessed frieze having four flush drawers, raised on a hexagonal section baluster column on a trefoil base raised on bun feet, 128.5cm wide x 73.5cm high, one drawer stamped Gillows Lancaster.From a significant mid-Wales country house.A similar Gillows drum table was sold at Christie's South Kensington rooms, 3 November 2011, lot 40, but with a leather inset top. The shape of pedestal and base is nearly identical and features several times in Gillows estimate sketch books of the 1820s on similar drum-top library as well as loo tables. Another example can be found in the collection of Dunham Massey, Cheshire, with an octagonal top.Generally good with some minor signs of age and use. A small veneer repair to the lower edge of the frieze adjacent to one of the drawers. A section of moulding to the pedestal adrift but present and intact (merely needs re-glueing). Minor cosmetic marks and scuffs to the base and feet. Drawer action is good. Revolving action is good and smooth.

A good and rare 19th century Egyptian, architectural style, inlaid centre table,the square top inlaid with mother-of-pearl, bone, mahogany and rosewood, decorated with concentric 8-pointed stars within a series of geometric borders, above a plain frieze with an arch below on each side, the arches flanked by finely turned, square mashrabiyya panels, with turned pendants, on inlaid collared, turned supports, united by a galleried undertier in the shape of an 8-pointed star, raised on inlaid, buttress-form legs, 58.5cm wide x 71cm highPurchased from an estate in Perthshire.The fine mashrabiyya panels, inlaid collars and legs are all hallmarks of a piece that would have been made for the higher echelons of Egypian society, or perhaps even for the Ottoman court.Some chips, including one foot and small chips on some veneers, including some corners of top and collars, consistent with age and use. Overall - good condition and damage minor.

Examples can be found in past International auctions and institutional collections.Generally good, but with small isolated losses of inlay.

The map scale of 1 inch representing 3 miles allows for tremendous detail, including churches, castles, railways, heaths, turnpike roads, woods and rivers. A delightful vignette of Stowe House adorns the lower left corner. There is also an explanation table, compass rose and a numbered reference table to the various county "Hundreds".
