Colonial school, Mexico, 18th century. Child Jesus of the thorn. Oil on canvas. One of the iconographic models that makes its appearance in the midst of the post-Tridentine current is that of the so-called “Child of the Thorn”. This theme, which was quickly spread in colonial America, is closely related to that of predestination, since it shows an omen of the Passion of Christ. In the image you can see the child Jesus who has pricked his finger while trying to weave a crown of thorns with some roses. Sitting in front of a table where you can see the roses and part of the crown. The child holds the finger that has just been pricked with his hand, highlighting with his gaze the character of predestination that marks the work. 68 x 49 cm.
