Original vintage anti alcohol health propaganda poster - This is how a person becomes alcoholic Hoppy water (alcohol) will not lead to good - featuring a design showing illustrations of a man drinking in front of a staircase representing the steps of his fall to the bottom due to alcoholism, starting with him smiling and holding a drink next to a table, then drinking in a bar leaning on the ledge, asleep in bed dreaming of alcohol with an empty bottle and glass on the floor, followed by an image of him unshaven and failing at work, drinking in secret by a bin, having an aggresive fight with a tree displaying antisocial behaviour and, finally, lying drunk on the road with the emergency services driving to pick him up, the warning text in Ukrainian on yellow arrows against the black background reads - Drinks on any occasion holidays, meetings with friends, receiving an award, to calm down. After the first drink, he can't stop himself from going again and again and starts to lose control over himself. Becomes irritable, indifferent to the family and behaves like a ruffian on the street. A drunkard develops diseases of the stomach, liver and heart and the body develops a tendency to catch colds. Morally degrades losing his family, often changing his job and breaks laws, for which he is criminally liable. Complete degradation of the person, alcoholic insanity occurs. An impressive George III mahogany serpentine serving table, circa 1790, with a moulded shaped top set on base with plain frieze and four tapered and fluted legs, with angular block feet, 90cm high, 188cm wide, 72cm deep Provenance: A Scottish Borders estate. This is a wonderfully proportioned table and would suit any substantial dining room or boardroom, with substantial legs and deep serpentine shape it should last another century or two!
An Art Deco walnut cloud-style three-piece bedroom furniture suite - comprising double and single wardrobes and a matching dressing table, by Woodland Products, 1930s, all with cloud-shaped tops and bakelite foliate handles. The single wardrobe's interior with upper shelf and hanging-rail beneath, the inside of the door with tie rail and stud tray (LWH 92 x 49 x 170 cm); the dressing-table with bevelled, cloud-shaped mirror over a moulded, split-level top, the recessed centre over a kneehole drawer, flanked by two banks of three drawers to each pedestal, with bakelite handles, on moulded plinth bases. Two carved marble table lamps - second half 20th century, baluster form with foliate carved foliate mounts to the waisted socles and square base, 24.75 cm and 25 cm high (one lacks bulb fitting, wiring cut); together with Victorian painted and gilded white glass bowl, originally on a pedestal base, of frilled, floral form, painted with flowers and insects, 23.5 cm diameter. (3)* Condition: The lamp that is lacking the bulb fitting is otherwise in good condition. The other lamp has a small chip to the lower edge of the top section below the bulb fitting. No other faults.
