NEW ORDER HUGE GET READY PROMOTIONAL POSTER. What would have been a teaser promo banner most likely up and around Manchester City Centre featuring the New Order website and the distinctive red line all the way across. Measures approx. 8 x 2 metres.I found this holding my Garage Door up! It must have been for promo somewhere but how subtle is that! Sometimes I must admit that Peter Saville’s subtlety was lost on me. From what I remember we struggled with this sleeve idea. Peter’s idea of the sleeve of a ‘photographer taking a picture of us observing a photographer’ seemed a bit much. But I was so desperate to get the record out so we could play live... I just nodded.
OASIS RELATED MEMORABILIA. To include early handbill for their performance at the Hippodrome Middleton in April 1992 (supporting Hooky's band Revenge), 2 tickets and VIP pass for 2009 Heaton Park show plus clothing from Liam's Pretty Green label (4 polo shirts, 1 t-shirt and a pair of sunglasses). They did their first gig supporting ‘Revenge’... our kid still has a Betamax tape of their gig in his loft, just won’t get it out the lazy bugger. The stardust really rubbed off that night for them. I remember ‘The Salford Lot’ stormed the door thinking it was a House night, then upon hearing the brand new Oasis onstage, legged it out again. I was rancid that night sadly and missed them. I am a great supporter of ‘Pretty Green’ Liam’s clothing range and have done many events for them over the years. The sunglasses he gave me personally after Heaton Park, sadly I missed them. I took Jessica with me and when it started to go dark, plastic bottles of piss started to rain down on us in the V.I.P. section so we had to leave.
SAEHAN SSC-75TRD SEMI-ACOUSTIC GUITAR. Serial No: 94031. With Eastwood Guitars soft case (a bit too small for the guitar).Given as a present for opening a huge new music superstore on Regent Road, Salford in 1993 (now PMT). Me and Mrs Merton put on a big drunken show in the afternoon and I cut the ribbon to open the shop. Mrs Merton demanded I be paid for my efforts and they said, "He can pick one thing that he wants!". I loved the colour of the guitar. As we were staggering out I noticed the forklift truck salesroom next door and then found out 'The Salford Lot' had robbed them on the very same night by stacking their Fork Lift Trucks up 5 high, lifting the metal roof off and taking all the stock. The manager later said to me, "That guitar was lucky! They were very efficient, they cleaned us out!". Used extensively on a lot of Monaco tracks including ‘What do you want from me’, ‘Shine’ etc...
NEW ORDER "REPUBLIC" MEMORABILIA PACKAGE. Relating to the release of their 1993 LP this package includes a pair of candlesticks gifted by London Records, Republic album notes and working tittles, US tour Itinerary 1993 with travel sheets & printed lyric sheets, songbook, Republic tour merchandise ideas 1993, Video treatment for Baywatch film, Press pack & video breakdown plus the big "Redbook" containing programming and recording preparations notes for live and studio performances.London Records were fantastic for us and Tracey Bennet/Colin Bell were such great fun. They even gave me Revenge back. Tracey said, "You may as well have it Hooky no-one else will!" Cheers mate... I was sorry to see them go... Warners Brothers are just as good, if not better, but nowhere near as much fun. Groucho’s, Browns, Cafe De Paris and every dive in Soho. Thanks lads. I remember when we were mixing ‘Republic’ in London (the City) and these two (The Record Company) came to help... shall we say a little too refreshed. Stephen Hague was not amused and me and Rob were pissing ourselves at their suggestions. At one point Tracey suggested hiring a real lion so it could roar on a track... at this Stephen Hague did a runner out the back door leaving Me and Rob and them to it. Hilarious.
MOBY & NEW ORDER TOUR MEMORABILIA. To include Moby "Destroyed" book with dedication and doodle to Hooky, Moby - Porcelain book, 2 dressing room door signs (one Moby, one New Order) plus schedule/itinerary & wristband for New Order & Moby's performance together at the 2005 Dance Music Awards in Hanover.Moby was always a great fan and responsible for launching us back into America with his Area 1 tour. God I was ill on that tour... caught a virus in Japan funnily enough, the one Slim caught the first time we ever went in the early 80s. I lost 2 stone in 4 days... I thought I wouldn’t be able to play and it was Billy Corgan who saved me with a couple of Tamiflus... first time I wandered off stage. The highlight was undoubtedly our guesting on his cover version of ‘New Dawn Fades’... the faces of people watching John Frusciante teaching me and Barney the bass and guitar will haunt me forever. It was wonderful, and afterwards, I stood with Barney at the side of the stage and he turned to me and said, “When are we doing that song with Moby” “Eh?" We’d just done it!
SUMMER SONIC JAPAN FESTIVAL & ELECTRIC PICNIC FESTIVAL MERCH.This is one of the bigger Japanese music festivals and is always great fun to do. The Japanese audiences amazing and always have been for New Order. We started with Fuji Rocks, which is the tidiest festival I have ever seen in my life. If you want to hear a really wild story please buy 'Substance Inside New Order' for more details! Electric Picnic is held in Ireland and is usually always bad weather, but a highly spirited crowd. Complete with passes, dressing room door plate and 2 live DVDs of the performance - a great gig as I recall.
TOP OF THE POPS & JONATHAN ROSS SCRIPTS. A signed Jonathan Ross script, 2 door signs (one signed) and 2 Top Of The Pops scripts for New Order performances. One of the highlights of this job and a real pinnacle, was TOTP. For years we played, as opposed to miming, making complete nuisances of ourselves, which fitted in well with our punk ethic - the trouble with playing live is that we always sounded shit, but it didn't bother us if the record went down or up! The great bit was when other bands used to apologise to us for miming! I once put feedback all the way through OMDs new single and all of the crew were trying to work out where it was coming from. Jonathan Ross became a good friend over the years and we disgraced ourselves on our show, doing a horrendously drunken version of 'JetStream'.
LEMMY, JOHN CALE, JOHN LENNON, DAVID CASSIDY, JAMES, KRAUTROCK & MORE. A truly eclectic mix of memorabilia here to include boxed Lemmy figure & 2 DVDs of his life story that Peter featured in, John Lennon Imagine h/b book plus newspapers & magazines published following his death in 1980, a b/w photo of Hooky & David Cassidy, a folder containing press photos of numerous bands (James, Steve Strange, 808 State, Fun Lovin Criminals and more), 2 x John Cale Live at The Hacienda cassettes plus a catalogue and press release re German Rock Avantgarde project that Peter appeared on with Killing Joke.Sometimes it is overwhelming remembering these occasions. David Cassidy, I met in New York with Keith Allen at ‘The New Music Seminar’ that Tony Wilson would later bring to Manchester as ‘In The City’. It really went crazy that night when Ice Cube’s posse started fighting with Da Lynch Mob in the hotel we were all at for the conference... David Cassidy leapt under the table on hearing shots outside the Green Room door. Me being pissed and used to it (thanks to The Hacienda) spent ages trying to get him out so we could go out and see what was happening.
*DAVID JONES (1895-1974) 'The Yellow Door, Pigotts' An interior scene looking through an open door to a garden, watercolour over pencil, 50cm x 61.5cmProvenance: The Lady Kinnaird and thence by descent Pigotts, in the village of Speen in the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire, was the home of Eric Gill from 1928 until his death in 1940, where the Artist set up a printing press, lettering workshop and alternative community.David Jones had previously been introduced to Gill through The Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic, Gill's Catholic community of artists and craftspeople, based on the idea of the medieval guild and founded in 1920 in Ditchling, East Sussex. In 1924 Jones had become engaged to marry Gill's daughter Petra, but in 1927 she broke off their engagement to marry a mutual friend. Distressed, Jones concentrated on art. Petra's long neck and high forehead would continue as female features in his artwork. Jones continued to spend a lot of time with the Gill Family, firstly at Capel-Y-ffin, Gill's home in the Black Mountains between 1924-1928 and then at Pigott's, where Jones produced much of his work between 1928 and 1932. It was following Gill's move to Pigott's that Jones became an important part of the art world in London, being great friends with Jim Ede and joining with Ben and Wilfred Nicholson, Ivon Hitchens, Christopher Wood and Cedric Morris in the Seven and Five Society. He continued to exhibit with them every year until 1933. Jones was eventually expelled from the Society by Nicholson in 1935 for failing to embrace abstract painting. In 1965 Jones was proclaimed Britain's best living painter by Kenneth Clark, whilst his poetry, including the celebrated epic poem 'In Parenthesis' based on Jones's experiences during the First World War, saw him lauded by T.S. Eliot and W. H. Auden
