A 19th Century Cromwellian style carved oak Display Cabinet, the plain moulded cornice over a single glazed arch door, flanked by carved uprights with lion masks, bearded gentleman and flowers, on a base with frieze drawer and panel door, decorated similarly, approx. 221cms (87")high 87cms (34")wide. A fine quality 19th Century "Aesthetic" Display Cabinet, by Lamb of Manchester, the walnut and ebonised body with a turned gallery top over a breakfront section with glazed doors, flanked by bevelled mirror sides, supported by turned pillars, over a base with frieze drawers, above decorated panel central door, flanked each side by an open series of shelves on turned feet, stamped on drawers, approx. 155cms (61") high x 104cms (41") wide. An almost matching pair of Victorian carved oak Display Cabinets, in the Cromwellian style, the plain pelmets over profusely carved pillar supports and central dome shaped glazed door, on similarly decorated bases, with frieze drawer, approx. 213cms (7')high x 89cms (39")wide. Rivers & Son, London, a Georgian ebonised verge bracket clock: the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement having a verge escapement and striking the hours on a bell with pull repeat and having a fully engraved backplate, the seven-inch round enamelled dial having black Roman hour numerals, Arabic outer five-minute numerals and signed Rivers & Son, London, with decorative blued steel hands, the ebonised case having a full opening front door with brass fret work below and brass edging, brass side frets, a three-pad top with brass mounts, surmounted by a brass carrying handle and standing on brass bracket feet, height 34cms (handle down): 38cms (handle up).* Biography David Rivers is recorded as working in Sweetings Alley, London being free of the Clockmakers Company in 1766 with the business becoming Rivers & Son in circa 1782 with an address in Cornhill, where they were successors to Daniel de St. Jeu, Clockmakers to her Majesty. Robert Sutton, Stafford, a moonphase longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with a wood rod to the pendulum, the thirteen-inch break-arch brass dial engraved to the solid centre with the maker's name Sutton, Stafford and with cast brass female-head corner spandrels, the chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, large Arabic five minute numerals, with decorative blued steel hands and a sweep seconds hand, the arch showing the date and phases of the moon to a finely painted disc showing two moons, with a landscape picture to one side and a seascape to the other unusually depicting a sailing and steam ship, a feature seen on another Staffordshire moon disc, the mahogany case with finely fluted free standing pillars to the trunk and hood, a shaped top to the door, with three shells inlaid to the frieze above the door and further shell inlay to the four corners of the base and to the plinth below the trunk pillars, the swan-neck pediment to the hood fronted with three panels of blind fretwork, with side blocks, a ball-and-spire brass finial and brass paterae, the case standing on cabriole bracket feet, height 236cms.* Biography Robert Sutton is recorded as working from circa 1769 when he took John Chambley as an apprentice followed by William Gilbert in 1779. Various watches were recorded stolen from his premises in 1774 and 1781. He is known as a maker of fine longcases, with one in particular being an exceptional musical example with the dial showing the saint's days, holy days and the Gods of the four seasons along with an annual calendar.Another example, with a wooden movement showing the influence of the great John Harrison who had previously worked in the area, is on display at The Collection, Art & Archaeology in Leicestershire where it is stated: Although influenced by Harrison, Sutton remains an outstanding craftsman and innovator in his own right. Reference: Joseph McKenna, Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Central England, Mayfield Books, 2002.The rear of the moon disc and the frontplate of the movement are both signed, one scratched, the other punched, by the clockmaker Thomas Pear of Stafford who is recorded as working at 4, Marston Road, Stafford, from before 1880 until at least 1896 and beyond. This mark would indicate that he carried out some repairs/restorations on this clock.
William Johnson, Strand, London a mahogany regulator: the eight-day duration, five pillar timepiece movement having a dead-beat escapement, maintaining power, a mercury-filled jar to the compensating pendulum and brass-bound weight, the twelve-inch, round silvered dial with typical regulator layout of minutes to the outer aspect and two subsidiary dials showing seconds and hours to the centre, and signed Wm. Johnson, Strand, London, the mahogany dome-topped case having a full opening glazed door, canted corners, raised moulding to the base and standing on bracket feet, height 183cms.* Biography A number of makers by the name of William Johnson are recorded as working in London, with the most likely maker of this regulator being the William recorded as having premises in the Strand from circa 1825 until 1840.
A lacquered longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the twelve-inch painted break-arch dial having black Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds and date dials, the corners and arch painted with gilt and green floral decoration on a black ground, with decorative gilt-brass hands, indistinctly signed to the centre, possibly Blyth, …mouth, the associated black lacquered case having a flat-top hood with gilt-wood capitals to the three-quarter hood pillars, with raised giltwood Oriental decoration to the trunk door and base and further decoration to the case, height 209cms.
J Bulgorone, London a mahogany stick barometer: the silvered plates having an inset thermometer and engraved with the usual barometer markings and the makers name J Bulgorone, Fecit, the mahogany case having a visible tube, fluted canted corners to the trunk, an opening door to the dial, a turned cistern to the base, and surmounted by an architectural pediment with a cast-brass finial, height 98cms.
An early George III mahogany bureau:, the sloping hinged fall enclosing a fitted interior with small drawers and pigeon holes about a central cupboard enclosed by a fielded panel door flanked by upright reeded column concealed compartments, fitted with an arrangement of two short and three long drawers below, on bracket feet, 102cm (3ft 4 1/4in) wide.
By J & T Scott - A Victorian amboyna wood and ivory line inlaid Davenport:, the superstructure with a lidded fitted stationery compartment and sloping tooled leather inset hinged writing surface, enclosing a satinwood veneered interior with small drawers, the side fitted with four short drawers enclosed by a moulded panel door, the moulded panel front with carved husk and scroll brackets on a plinth base with bun feet and castors, 59cm (1ft 11 1/2in) wide.*Notes Bearing a stamp J & T Scott, 10 George St, Edinburgh
A 19th Century French rosewood vitrine:, surmounted by a panel of beige variegated marble, having a chevron veneered frieze panel flanked by carved paterae, the crimson plush lined interior with four shelves, enclosed by a glazed panel door between fluted stiles having glazed panel sides on a plinth base with turned tapered feet, 80cm (2ft 7 1/2in) wide, 36.5cm (1ft 2 5/8in) deep, 161cm (5ft 3 1/4in) high.
Two boxed Franklin Mint diecast models in 1:24 scale, a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado and a 1953 Eldorado model in white, both appear G/G+, with paperwork, although the former model has a broken and missing door mirror. A packaged Road Tough Chevrolet Impala model in 1:18 scale is also included as part of this lot, G+. Condition of plain outer packaging varies. (3)
