An early 19th century tavern style wall clock, painted dial signed Richard Mathews, Welshpool, recorded by Loomes as born 1814 and working until 1861, initially in Welshpool and later in Oswestry and Nantwich, matched counter-balanced hands, single brass weight, case of oak and mahogany, full length door with inlaid design and flanked by half-length columns.Please Note: The Auction Centre have applied for a de minimis exemption licence (non-transferable) for the ivory in this lot, submission reference - ERWGECDSCondition Report: Evidence of old worm to the case, in need of restoration.
A late 18th century mahogany-cased 8-day longcase clock, signed to the arched, painted, rolling moon dial for James Cawson, Liverpool, Loomes lists him initially as working in Lancaster then Liverpool from 1781, matching steel hands, centre seconds indication, case with full length door, quarter reeded columns, raised on bracket feet, hood with swan-necked pediment and inset verre eglomise panels, with pendulum and two brass-cased weights, approximately 230 cm (h). Condition Report: Some splitting / separation to the hood, glass appears ok, loss / splitting to the case door, veneer loss in areas, general surface marks / scratches / knocks throughout.
