RICHARD BATTERHAM (1936-2021); a stoneware cut sided butter dish covered in green ash glaze, diameter 14cm. (D)Provenance: Purchased from the Chestnut Gallery, Bourton on the Water, 1989.JB - Purchased after I had twice visited Batterham's home in Dorset, but on each occasion failed to pluck up the courage to knock on his door. I made a third visit in the summer of 1990, with personal recommendation and encouragement from John Maltby, R.B.'s best friend, but again failed to make contact. On the fourth trip in 1991 Margot accompanied me and she was prepared to boldly go where I had failed before. Was we robbed or was we robbed? But a pleasant conversation with the Master Potter.Additional InformationSmall chips to rim and small chips to underside of cover, otherwise appears good with no further signs of faults, damage or restorations. This lot qualifies for Artist Resale Rights.
