This Derby Bentley, one of 2422 produced between 1933-39, was purchased by Captain A.S.Giles, a former Lord Mayor of Birmingham in 1935, and remained in his ownership until 1954, being exported by him to Canada after the Second World War as settlers rights. The second owner, a Mr James Lillico purchased B152DG for $700 and had the Bentley re-sprayed metallic silver. The car remained in his ownership until 1958 when the car was purchased by Mr Fred McDonald of Port Credit, Ontario. Mr McDonald subsequently sent B152DG back to the Rolls Royce works for a complete mechanical overall. Surprisingly this is when the original James Young drop head coupé body was changed to the Hooper Sports Saloon body, which was restored fully by Hooper, externally and internally, this was also when the 3-band Blaupunkt radio was installed. B152DG was in England for two years having the work completed at a cost of $14,000. After returning to Canada B152DG remained in Mr McDonald's ownership until 1963 when the car was sold back to Mr James Lillico for the second time, and remained in his ownership for the next 35 years. Announced in the Autumn of 1980 and typically Rolls-Royce in so far as it represented evolution rather than revolution, the Silver Spirit was based on the preceding Silver Shadow 11, the Spirit's chief advance over its immediate forebear being the heavily revised and improved type of rear suspension.
