Having independant lidded box atop, embroidered floral scrolled exterior, with twin swing door opening, to reveal a red shelved interiors with button pull compartments. Tasseled closure and raised on bun feet. Measures approx 36cm (width) x 37cm (height) x 21cm (depth).

William Heath Robinson (British, 1872-1944) - 'A Gentleman's Gentlemans Page', from 'The Snow Queen' by Hans Christian Andersen, included in the book 'Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales with illustrations by W. Heath Robinson' (Henry Holt, 1913), where this illustration is reproduced with the title 'And The Nearer They Were To The Door The Prouder They Looked', with monogram to the left and title lower left, pencil and pen on card, 28 x 40 cm, mounted, glazed and framed, Together with a copy of the book 'Andersen's Fairytales, Illustrated by T.C & W Robinson' (J.M. Dent & Co., 1899) which includes the story 'The Snow Queen', although this illustration is not reproduced in this book. Provenance: consigned for sale from the estate of a family member of the artist.William Heath Robinson was known for his children's books and humorous illustrations. He also contributed cartoons to publications like Sketch and Bystander. From 1903, he extended his talents to illustrate advertising and publicity books for companies such as Moss Brothers, showcasing his delightful cartoon style. (2)

Approx. 36 x 39 x 34cms reasonable used with minor scuffs etc. crack to top. inlay starting to lift to one small section of one of the side panels
