In the manner of John Channon,a good figured walnut bureau bookcase,mid 18th century, the top section with a moulded cornice over two mirrored drawers and candle slides. The doors revealing an ornately fitted interior with folio recesses and shelves over a concave brass inlaid central drawer, and a conforming drawer flanked by four brass inlaid spring-loaded secret drawers and banks of two short and four long drawers, the base having a fitted interior with a brass inlaid central door within pigeonholes and drawers over two short and three long graduated drawers, with original brass swan neck handles and bracket feet,100cm wide61cm deep215cm highProvenance: Sold by Arthur Brett over thirty years ago. 19th century French mantel clock with eight day movement, outside countwheel striking on a bell, signed - Gaquerelle A. Paris, circular white enamel dial with Arabic minute outer scale and Roman hour numerals, signed - Gaquerelle A. Paris, pierced gilt metal hands and sun face pendulum, in a green lacquer case of waisted form, with rococo gilt metal scroll and foliate mounts and decorative pierced side panels (key and pendulum present), 30cm overall height CONDITION REPORT General overall condition quite good. Movement is clean and may have been repaired at some time as back plate is scuffed where pinned. We are unable to say if the movement is in full working order. Dial has been retouched in places and has some damage around winding holes. Case is in reasonable condition with some minor cracking. Rear door now has a green silk cover and hinge is a replacement gilt metal mounts are good
19th century French mantel clock with eight day movement, outside countwheel, striking on a bell, signed - Japy Frères et Cie, white enamel dial with Arabic minute outer scale and blue Roman hour numerals, pierced gilt metal hands, in a decorative gilt metal case surmounted by a figure of Demeter, Goddess of Harvest and two seated putti on a large scroll and foliate base, signed - P. H. Mourey 81, 58cm overall height (key and pendulum lacking) CONDITION REPORT General overall condition reasonably good. We are unable to say whether the movement is in full working order. Movement clean. Dial is damaged at 9 o'clock and has minor cracks. Case is quite good - gilding worn in places and there are signs of repair. Lower back has been repaired and there are several vacant holes. Rear door / plate missing

Movement is dirty. Appears to be in working order, although we have not had it going. No evidence of major damage or repair. Rack strike. Dial is good, minor cracks to border on right hand side. Case is quite good, some restoration and upper part of back board has been replaced. Lacquering is good, although one area on front door above lenticel is damaged. Gold finish is worn in places. Hood is good, door is secured by hook that has damaged decoration. Gold finish has been retouched

Some minor scuffing around winding holes. Pull repeat has been relocated. Case generally good. Minor damage to carved decoration on front lower left and around left side fret. Side silks loose. Side handle mounts slightly damaged

Late 18th century eight day oak long case clock, the brass automaton dial (28cm diameter) signed Aaron Austin Bristol and engraved with cottage, bridge and angler scene, subsidiary seconds dial, Roman chapter with Arabic outer chapter ring at 5 minute intervals, date aperture, surmounted by painted Old Father Time automaton and engraved Tempus Fugit, applied gilded spandrels of foliate scrolls, mask heads and dolphins, the corniced hood with reeded pilasters and glazed side panels with some later replacement fretwork and panelling, the trunk with chamfered corners and mahogany banded door with remnant of original key in lock, the base of trunk a later replacement, perhaps sycamore (height 209cm), with two weights and pendulum, winder in office. Handwritten label within the door 'The dates of Aaron Austin are 1775 to 1795. No doubt these dates refer to the time that he was making clocks. Arch dials 1720. 18th century'
