Yokoyama Seiki (1792-1864)Ink and colour on silk mounted as hanging scroll, depicting a scholar standing by the door of the house with a servant cleaning the pavement leading to the house, three ducks swimming in the flowing river adjacent to the house, all below tall trees and bamboos within mountainous landscape, signed Kun Seiki with two seals of the artists, 105 x 47cm, with fitted wood box.cf. Yokoyama Seiki was one of the best students of Matsumura Keibun (1779 - 1843), who was the brother of the founder of Shijo School, Matsumura Goshun (1752 - 1811). Condition Report: Slight creasing to the painting, very faint and minute foxing to the painted area. Minor staining to the top of the painting, a scroll end has been dethatched.
George I style walnut bureau bookcase, moulded cornice, the upper section with bevelled mirrored glass door above candle slides, the base with fall front enclosing a well fitted interior with cupboard drawers and pigeon holes, four long graduating drawers under, bracket feet, width 70cm, depth 51cm, height 192cm.
George III mahogany and marquetry cupboard, pendant frieze above two door enclosing shelves, the base with three drawers over a cupboard, splayed bracket feet, width 101cm, depth 51cm, height 191cm.Condition report:Some beaded elements missing from the top frieze. All four cupboard doors have splitting to the panels, mostly concentrated in the corners, and as a result there are patches of veneer and inlay loss. The lower cupboard panels are especially split. All of the inlay outlining has blistered a little. The length of satinwood moulding on the left hand side of top of the base section is missing. There is a large 1.5inch section missing above the centre of the long drawer, and various lengths of the drawer outlines have been repaired/ replaced. The interiors are red-baize lined and are looking tired, with some rips and tears. The mon drawer pulls differ in design to the short drawer pulls. The cupboard doors do not close flush. No working keys.
Two French style armoire, white painted, scrolled pediments carved decoration, one with mirrored door, the other open with hanging rail and shelves, scrolled cabriole legs, width 112cm, depth 74cm, height 241cm.Qty: 2Condition report:The armoire without glass in the door has damages and old repairs to the door frame, including a metal bracket on the back top right corner. The armoire with mirrored door has a break to the top crest which needs repairing. Both have been kept in outbuildings so they both have surface dirt and grime, and some breaks to the moulded trims on the sides and front facias.
Joined oak linen press, 18th Century, moulded cornice, the upper section with doors enclosing two shelves, above a drawer, the base with two short and two long drawers, bracket feet, width 116cm, depth 54cm, height 197cm.Condition report:Old repairs throughout. The top section, inlcuding back panel and top planks, have suffered some woodworm. The top planks have parted so the inner cavity is open to dust etc. The interior is a tired with various old marks and wear. The front frieze below the cornice has some Tunbridge-style stringing but some lengths are lacking. The right hand door does not close flush. Old losses to the door and drawer pulls throughout. The base section is mostly good, some of the side panels have split along grain lines. The drwers linings are all sound, although planks have parted slightly. Some internal staining. Old repairs to the feet.
