Laurel & Hardy - Stan Laurel (1890-1965) and Oliver Hardy (1892-1957) - an exceptional black and white 8x10" colour photograph from their 1928 silent short 'Two Tars'. Signed in black ink by both above their respective images. Laurel added 'Our Best Wishes', and Hardy adding 'Best Wishes'. Undedicated. Professionally mounted and framed. The autographs were obtained personally by the vendor's father when he met them at the stage door of The Bristol Hippodrome in 1952. Such signed photographs from their movies are considered scarce.
The Beatles - a unique piece of Beatles memorabilia - an original card slip from a pack of their underwear, signed by the full band. The card having been taken from a packet of Wolsey 'X' Briefs - taken from John Lennon's & George Harrison's hotel bedroom during their stay at The Royal Pier Hotel in Weston Super Mare, July 1963. The band later signed the card the following day. Their autographs all to one side, undedicated. A handwritten note of provenance is supplied with the card, which was written by the vendor just a few days after meeting the band. It reads, in part: 'Went down Weston on the Wednesday morning (July 24th 1963)...found out what hotel Beatles staying at by buying two chaps ten fags each. Went to Hotel (Royal Pier) in afternoon. Got Paul's, Fred's & Les Chadwick's autographs (from Gerry & The Pacemakers). Gerry, John & George came out but were in a hurry... chap on duty at door left in car so as Fred (Marsden) had told us Beatles' bedroom number was 49 about six of us went up. Room open, went in, no-one there, ward-robe open, Bible open on one of the two beds, letter for George on dressing table and record cover with John's name on in wardrobe so must have been John & George's bedroom. I took big card label from one of a pile of Wolsey Cotton Rib X Briefs!! Nearly got Police on us because we went up to bedroom. Went to show (2nd performance) - fab!!! They recognised us especially Paul & Fred. Went down Weston on the Friday morning (July 26th)...went straight to Hotel. Got rest of Beatles and Pacemakers' autographs....got label from pants signed by Beatles. Paul knew I'd been up in bedroom!!... They're FAB!' The note is written on the back of a Kodak Film photograph slip. Two period reprinted photographs (taken from the originals listed in a previous lot) are included in this lot which depict Starr and Harrison signing autographs outside the hotel, taken by the vendor (copyright is NOT included in this sale of these images).Condition; the card slip shows signs of wear, with some creases and a small tear to one side which goes through the tail of McCartney's 'Y'. Harrison's autograph features to the top and is a little faint - Starr, McCartney and Lennon are bold. The piece should be considered with wear, but would display well and would benefit from framing and conservation.A truly unique piece of Beatles memorabilia, with an important local connection. James Bond Skyfall (2012) - A prop door handle from the Skyfall Lodge. The twist effect handle with central bracket made from rubber to imitate iron. In the Film, the Skyfall House was perceived to be situated in Glencoe, however the House was actually purpose-built from scratch at Hankley Common in Surrey, whilst interior shots were filmed on a soundstage at Pinewood Studios. The full scale set was constructed from plywood & plaster which was destroyed in the Films explosive finale. Set in a framed display (18x11.5x2 inches) with a corresponding still. Provenance: Obtained from one of the Films Prop Masters. Accompanies a five page Location Prep & Map from Pinewood Studios dated 23rd January 2012, choreographing the Skyfall Lodge scenes.

A WOOD NETSUKE OF HANKAIJapan, late 19th centuryFinely carved as Hankai standing in full armor, his feet placed wide apart dynamically, his expression forceful, holding a door with a grimacing face in his hand. His pupils are inlaid and the asymmetrical himotoshi are found in the back.HEIGHT 4.7 cmCondition: Excellent condition with minor surface wear. Provenance: European collection.Hankai (Chinese: Fan Kuai, died around 200 B.C.) was one of the first followers of the Han Dynasty and minister of the emperor Kan no Koso. The legend describes how Hankai prevented an assassination attempt on the emperor by the villain Gao Yu. When Hankai heard about the planned attack, he kicked the hall door in and stormed the room with a door leaf under his arm. Afterwards he enabled the emperor to escape by a trick.
A SUPERB AND RARE SMALL GOLD-LACQUER SHODANA (DISPLAY CABINET) WITH STAND Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)The shodana (display cabinet) supported on the original gold-lacquer stand with four curved feet and neatly decorated in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with several minogame (thousand-year-tortoises) amongst meandering streams and rocks. The silver and shakudo fitted cabinet comprising two pairs of hinged cupboard doors, one single corner door, one set of sliding doors, staggered shelves and three drawers, decorated in gold takamaki-e, kirigane and e-nashji with floral and mountainous landscape, as well as different birds, the top, sides, and reverse scattered with aoi-mons, the cupboard doors bordered with hanabishi (flowery-diamond) motifs.This shodana is ideal for presenting miniature artworks such as netsuke. The use of tortoiseshell as a ground for the lacquer application is incredibly rare and the design is remarkably beautiful in combination with the gold inlays.

George II japanned longcase clock by Joseph Stevens, London (Aldgate), c1750, with a flat topped hood, shallow cornice and blind fret beneath, square hood door with rectangular glazed panels to the sides, with a long trunk and conforming full length door with raised moulding to the edge, on a rectangular plinth with applied skirting, front of the case profusely decorated in the oriental chinoiserie style, with a square brass dial and silvered chapter ring engraved with Roman numerals, minute track and five minute Arabic's, matching scroll spandrels and finely matted dial centre, with matching steel hands, recessed silvered seconds dial and square date aperture with silvered date ring behind, dial pinned directly to an eight-day rack striking movement, striking the hours on a cast bell, with weights and pendulum.
