Lot 1258

A George III mahogany longcase clock by John Smith of Chester, with two-train striking movement and moon phase, the case with swans neck pediment, long trunk door and fluted quarter column corners. Height 240 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We have the pendulum & weights. The clock appears to be ticking away and does strike when the hands are advanced to the hour. The clock case is in first class condition with no significant issues. The trunk door is only very slightly warped at the bottom left hand corner but in our opinion this is not significant. The remainder of the case is in very good condition and the bracket feet appear original. The backboards are original. The dial and moon phase are in good order and the clock could be used or resold in its current state without the need for any repair or restoration.

Lot 1293

An Edwardian inlaid mahogany display case, with three quarter glazed doors, tapered legs with low shelf and with spade feet. CONDITION REPORT: This cabinet is in generally good condition with no significant issues. The cornice and frieze are in good order. All of the glass panels are undamaged. The centre door has a crack across the arched wood astragal. All doors are not warped. The moulding beneath the left hand panel has a small break which has been glued. There are no missing pieces. The legs are all in good condition with no breaks. The bottom shelf has a few minor scuffs and marks but no significant issues.

Lot 1659

A George III mahogany sideboard, with serpentine front and sides and fitted with drawers and cupboards and raised on tapered legs of square section terminating in spade feet (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Height 93.5 cm, depth at deepest point 70.5 cm, width at rear 191 cm, width at front 176.5 cm. This sideboard has come to us from a local property and is in extremely good condition. The top is of good colour with no damage or cracks. The crossbanded frieze is equally in excellent condition. The two drawers and cupboard are both in excellent condition as are the legs. The sideboard could be used and enjoyed in its current state without the need for any repair or restoration. The handles if not original go through the original handle holes. We have the key for the right hand door but not the two drawers which are not locked. A very minor and unimportant criticism would be that the left hand drawer front and right hand cupboard door have old stress fractures to the veneers but these are insignificant.

An early 19th century Scottish mahogany longcase clock, with swans neck pediment above the arched painted dial and two-train striking movement, flanked by turned columns, with bowed trunk door and panelled base. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in generally extremely good condition. It is a good colour. The doors are not warped. We have the keys and pendulum. The dial is in very good condition as are all of the pointers. The catgut has slipped of the drums on both trains. We do however see any reason why the movement should not be operational. The movement winds as it should.

A Victorian mahogany chiffonier, with rear upstand and shelf, the base fitted with two drawers and pair of panelled cupboard doors and raised on a plinth. Width 125 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The rear upstand, shelf and carved supports are all in good order. The top has some blooming and minor surface marks but no significant issues. The drawers are in good order with no damage. The right hand door has some scuffing to the edge moulding. Neither door is warped. The base is in good order with only minor surface marks.

Lot 1606

A George III mahogany tray topped beside cabinet, with single door and raised on legs of square section. Width 34 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The gallery is in good order. The top has an old stress fracture and various old watermarks and stains. The door is basically in good condition. The left hand side has a stress fracture from front to back. The rear panel has a similar stress fracture along a panel join. All legs are in good order with no repairs or restoration.

Lot 1145

An Edwardian inlaid mahogany lyre shaped clock, with single-train movement. Height 26.5 cm, width 15 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in very good condition with no visible defects. There are some minor surface marks and scratches but nothing of any significance. The door and dial are in good order. The movement is not currently operating as it is fully wound and the spring from the balance wheel is broken.

Lot 1634

A Victorian mahogany breakfront wardrobe, with detachable moulded cornice above a centre mirrored door enclosing trays and drawers and flanked on either side by a panelled cupboard door opening to hanging space and with plinth base. Width 197 cm, depth 67 cm, height 213 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cornice has some very small veneer losses which should be visible from our image. The left hand side panel has a section of mahogany missing at the top rear approximately 1.5 cm x 10 cm. This is right at the back by the wall. The bottom edge has veneer nibbles where the piece has been lifted on and of the base. The swept section of the cornice and crossbanded frieze is in good condition all round. The right hand side panel has the odd stress fracture and nibbles at the bottom edge similar to the other side. The plinth base has the usual scuffs and knocks and various veneer fractures particularly at the corners. The centre door is in generally good order. There is no significant warping. There is a small section of moulding missing from the left hand scroll above the mirror. The mirror plate is beginning to perish but is usable. The interior trays are all present as are the drawers. The left hand door is in generally good order with no warping. There is a small crack to the edge moulding to the left of the wooden knob handle. The interior drawer and hanging rails are present. The right hand door is in good condition with no issues. The interior drawer and hanging rail are also present. The backboards are original and appear to be in good order.

Width 70.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The rear upstand is in good order. The top of the piece is in generally good condition with only very minor scuffs to the moulded cornice. the frieze is in good condition all round. the door is not warped. We have the key and the door locks as it should. There are some cracks in the wooden astragals but no missing sections. All glass panels are in good condition with no cracks. the legs are a little scuffed around the proud parts and edges. the shelf is in good order. The interior cloth linings are a little stained and discoloured. The backboards are original and in good order.

Lot 1079

A small early 18th century mahogany table top spice cupboard, with single door to four drawers and raised on bracket feet. Width 21 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Generally in very good original condition. There are numerous old scratches, water & ink marks but no cracks or significant damage to the body at all. The door hinges operate as they should. The lock would appear to be original. We have no key. The rear left hand bracket foot is a later replacement. There is some minor evidence of old woodworm which appears to be long gone.

An 18th century joined oak spice cabinet, with panelled door enclosing a series of small drawers and with moulding below. Width 38 cm (see illustration).

Lot 1231

A pair of burr walnut and gilt painted bedside cabinets, in the Biedermeier style, with glass tops, slide and door enclosing a drawer and shelves and raised on bracket feet. Width 46 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: These are probably 1930's. They have probably been through a restorers workshop in fairly recent times. There are veneer repairs around the bottoms of the feet on both cabinets. These are at the bottom front edges in particular. The repairs are very good as is the colour. Other than this there are no other significant repairs. Both tops and pediments are in good condition. Both slides have minor rippling to the veneers and minor water damage. One slide has two small sections of veneer that have been filled. Both doors are in very good condition. They are not warped. The carcass appears to be pine. The veneers are fairly thick. They are structurally sound. The backboards may possibly be ply but we cannot see any of the sides to ascertain this. In our opinion the cabinets could be enjoyed or resold in their current state without the need for any work.

CONDITION REPORT: Extremely good order with no condition issues. There is no evidence of any damage, repairs or restoration. The door is not warped. All of the glass panels are intact. The piece is structurally sound. There is some discolouration to the woven cloth lining to the back and shelves.

Lot 554

A 19th century inlaid box, small book form, incorporating miniature bone dominoes. 88 mm x 56 mm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Generally good original condition. There are some minor veneer losses to the top. The slide has a loss to the bottom edge and bottom left hand corner. There are two small veneer losses to the sliding door surround. The slide is a little loose. There are no further losses. The patination is good. All dominoes appear to be present.

Lot 1540

A Victorian mahogany wardrobe, with moulded cornice above two pairs of double centre hinging doors with metal grilles and inlaid panels and all raised on a plinth base. CONDITION REPORT: The wardrobe completely comes to pieces and is in effect an early flat pack. Height 212 cm, depth at cornice 71 cm, width across cornice 171 cm. The top left hand return moulding has a small loss at the front. Four of the triangular swags have sections missing. The front of the cornice is in generally good condition. Four of the swags have pieces missing. The right hand return is in good order. One of the swags has a piece missing. Internal depth 62.5 cm. All doors are in basically good condition and not warped. All four bottom panels have stress fractures to the veneers but no significant losses. The sides of the piece are in generally good condition. The plinth moulding has the usual scuffs that one would expect but no serious issues. We are not sure if this wardrobe has been altered from another piece of furniture possible a bookcase. It is strange to have two locks on each door.

Lot 1363

An Edwardian inlaid mahogany wardrobe, with detachable cornice above a centre mirrored door flanked on either side by a further door with inlaid panels and all enclosing hanging space and drawers, the base fitted with two further drawers and raised on splayed bracket feet. Lot 1117

An Edwardian twin fusee mantle clock, with silvered dial, the case raised on four brass ball feet, the movement striking on five gongs. Height 48 cm, width 37 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is of good colour and patination with no significant issues. The brass feet are original. The door is not warped and opens as it should. The silvered brass dial is in very good condition. The movement is fully wound on both trains. The clock does however seem to strike as it should when the hands are advanced. The clock is currently ticking but stops after about a minute. We have the pendulum but no key.

Lot 1214

A late George III inlaid mahogany gentleman's linen press, with detachable moulded cornice above a pair of well figured panelled doors being crossbanded and ebony strung and opening to trays, the base fitted with three long drawers with wooden knob handles and raised on splayed bracket feet. Width 122 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is in good condition with no issues. The right hand door key is stuck in the lock. The lock is in the open position. If it was possible to lock the door with the key then the door would close flush. Without the key there is a gap of approximately .5 cm at the top of the door when pushed closed. The top drawer has cockbeading missing to the bottom right hand corner, drawer two has cockbeading missing to both the left and right hand sides. Drawer three has cockbeading missing on all sides. The wooden knob handles appear to be original. There are however strange scratch marks around the backs of the handles on the drawer fronts. The front apron has some minor veneer losses. The drawer divider between drawers 1 and 2 shows a veneer loss at the right hand side. There are further small veneer losses to both left and right up rights to the left of the drawers. The top right hand side has various old stress cracks. The top left hand side is similar. The sides of the base are in very good condition with only minor surface scratches. All bracket feet have minor scuffs and marks and some veneer losses. The backboards are original. The interior trays are all present.

Lot 1625

A 19th century mahogany longcase clock by R. Sutton of Whitehaven, with crossbanded case and with two-train striking movement. Height 240 cm, width 66 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in reasonable condition. There are however some veneer losses to the hood, trunk and base. The left hand return foot moulding is missing and there are numerous nibbles and scuffs around the base itself. The movement is very dirty. One pointer is missing. The painted dial is a little tired. The seconds hand is missing. The glazed door is loose. The movement and dial are loose. We have not had the clock working.

Lot 1213

A William & Mary joined oak hanging corner cupboard, with moulded cornice above a panelled door carved with initials and dated "1692" and opening to a single shelf. Width 79 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Height 70 cm, depth 47.5 cm, width 79 cm. The wooden knob handle is unlikely to be original but goes through an original hole. The lock is very primitive and probably original. We have no key. The door is hinged on pins rather than actual hinges. These are probably original. There is one interior shelf which is loose as the runner has become detached. The rear section of the shelf has a break across a join but both pieces of the shelf are present. As far as we can see there is no replacement timber and no significant faults.

Lot 1643

An early 19th century regulator, by James Ritchie & Son of Edinburgh, with six pillar single-train movement, with Brocot type escapement, dial diameter 34 cm, the case with brass framed door flanked by quarter round column corners and all raised on short turned feet. Height 214 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This clock is in generally extremely good condition. The hood is in good order. The door is not warped. The glass and brass are original. The dial is in good condition. The movement appears to be ticking away as it should. The main trunk of the clock is in good order. The glazed door is not warped. The plinth has a veneer stress fracture running from top to bottom which is clearly evident. The sides of the piece have minor old scuffs and marks but no significant issues. There is a small repair to the moulding to the right hand top corner of the plinth base. There are one or two minor stress fractures to other sections of the mahogany but no real condition issues. The clock does not really require any repairs or restoration. The movement is generally clean and as stated seems to be ticking away.

Lot 1448

An Edwardian mahogany bookcase, with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors with wooden astragals enclosing adjustable shelves and all raised on bracket feet. Width 74.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally very good condition. The cornice and crossbanded frieze are in good order. The doors are not warped and there are no cracked panes of glass. All astragals are present. There are some minor surface scratches to the timber in places but no significant issues. All hinges are original. The door shuts and locks as it should. We have the keys. The sides of the piece are in good order. The bracket feet are original and have nothing more than the usual minor scuffs that one would expect. The backboards are original. There is no evidence of any woodworm. Height 153 cm, width 74 cm, depth 42 cm

Lot 1257

A Victorian mahogany credenza, with centre glazed door enclosing shelves flanked by carved pilasters and with serpentine side doors and all raised on a plinth base. Width 167 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top of the credenza has two veneer repairs to the left hand side. There are one or two old watermarks and minor surface scratches. The top looks to have been recently repolished. The frieze and edge moulding are in good condition. The centre door shuts as it should and is not warped. The side doors are also in good condition with no significant issues. There is no damage to the glass. The plinth base is in good condition. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. The piece could be used in its current condition without the need for any work.
