A very good copy of this account by a doctor of The Dutch East India Company.

A mid 19th century French ormolu carriage clock by Bolviller of Paris, the eight day movement striking a bell and signed Bolviller a Paris, the case ornately chased and engraved with scrollwork and foliage, the front with embossed gilded dial decorated with baskets of flowers and scrolling branches, signed to the top of dial, with four bevelled glass panels, engraved rear door and supported on bun feet. 14cm high excluding handle.

As also the Perfect English Cook, or right method of the whole Art of Cookery, with the true ordering of French, Spanish, and Italian Kickshaws, with a-la-mode Varieties for Persons of Honour. To which is added, the way of dressing all manner of Flesh, Fowl, and Fish, and making admirable Sauces, after the most refined way of French and English. The like never extant. By Mounsieur Marnette, [2nd edition], London: Printed for Obadiah Blagrave at the Black Bear and Star in St. Pauls Church-Yard, over against the Little North Door, 1686, [14],1-213,[214-216]pp., final three pages comprise printer's book list, lacking frontispiece (?), horizontal closed tear to title & torn to inner blank margin (both neatly repaired), B1 (pages 1/2) torn at head with loss and neatly repaired, occasional light repairs to blank margins and corners of few leaves, final three leaves with neatly repaired tears to inner margin with very slight loss to few words, final leaf repaired mostly to margins, one or two leaves a little close trimmed to running titles, armorial bookplate of Arnold W. Oxford to upper pastedown, all edges gilt, 19th century calf by Lloyd, gilt decorated spine and board edges, contrasting morocco labels to spine, 12mo Scarce, Only one institutional location found (New York Public Library). Cagle 855, Oxford p.28 (in note), Vicaire 566, Wing M706A, ESTC R180373. The first edition was published in 1656 by Nath. Brooks, and included a frontispiece representing the interior of a kitchen. This second edition of 1686 has no frontispiece present and probably never had one according to Oxford, however the New York Public Library example appears to have one present. The first part of this work comprises a translation of Le Pastissier francois, 1653. This actual volume would appear to have been the copy owned by the cookery book bibliographer and collector Arnold Whitaker Oxford (1854-1948). (1)
A late Victorian painted pine two door cupboard, 131 cm wide Condition report Report by NG Approx. measurements: Width: 131 cm Depth: 46.5 cm Height: 108.5 cm Some knocks and bumps to red painted decoration. A couple of large splits in top and both sides, other splits in top, hinges also painted, these have worn most. Back boards appear to have age, contain two pine shelves internally.
A Heal's oak dressing table, 106 cm wide, with a matching two door wardrobe, 121 cm wide, and a linen chest, 76 cm wide (3) See illustration Condition report Report by NG Dimensions: H - 117 cm W - 77 cm D - 48 cm Report by GH Evidence of damp in the wardrobe with the front edge of the bottom of the wardrobe rotten in places and very soft, and some soft areas with some loss at the centre of the back of the wardrobe. One of the handles on the wardrobe is also loose, and the frame which supports the mirror on the dressing table is also loose, otherwise condition is generally good and the suite appears to be complete with all handles present. From a private client, who is moving house. Overall in good and original condition, with light use, in a pretty much original condition. The dressing table and the chest both have Heal's ivorine plaques, the two door wardrobe unmarked. Both doors detached from the wardrobe (screws missing). No sign of any woodworm, all good and rigid
A Globe Wernicke oak four section bookcase, 86 cm wide Condition report Report by RB Overall generally good, in an original condition, with knocks, scratches and general wear commensurate with age, one section with stencilled Globe Wernicke, one with Globe Wernicke plaque, two with nothing, some of the metal mounts have surface ruse, the (largest) bottom section has the door detached, there are two metal brackets fixed to the sides, use unknown, the bottom left hand return section on the plinth is detached.
