LNER 12" Drop Dial Clock manufactured by Seth Thomas, USA. Ex MANOR POWIS Signalbox between Cambus and Stirling on the original Stirling & Dunfermline Railway. The clock is in working order but the glass is missing from the bottom door. Inside the door is the original Seth Thomas Instruction sheet pasted to the backboard and also the small LNER numberplate 15879. Accompanying is a couple of colour photographs of the signalman, Jim Drysdale with the very clock in the background (painted in Scottish light blue colour).

James McCabe who was apprenticed to Reid & Auld before succeeded the McCabe business in 1811, when his father died. He had several business partners between 1811 to 1838, when his business was destroyed by a fire in the Royal Exchange. He was succeeded many years later by has nephew Robert Jeremy McCabe.

A very similar clock by this maker is illustrated in "British Clocks Illustrated" by Brian Loomes, pg 220.

An Oak Single Hand Thirty Hour Longcase Clock, signed Willm Porthouse, Penrith, circa 1740], the case with flat top pediment, the trunk with shaped door, 10-1/2-inch square brass dial, matted dial centre with date aperture and plaque signed "Willm Porthouse, Penrith", single hand, four pillar movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel striking on a bell, 206cm high *William Porthouse was from a family that made clocks for several generations. He is recorded as between 1706-90.
