A FRENCH GILT BRASS, GREEN ONYX AND CHAMPLEVE ENAMELLED FOUR-GLASS MANTEL CLOCK RETAILED BY ALDRED AND SON, GREAT YARMOUTH, CIRCA 1880 The circular eight-day gong striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by twin mercury capsule compensated pendulum incorporating polychrome cloisonne enamel decoration and Brocot type regulation to suspension, the backplate stamped with roundel inscribed MEDAILLE D'ARGENT around a laurel leaf motif over serial number 2795 and 4 11, the circular gilt dial with polychrome champleve enamelled rosette to centre within cartouche chapter ring with vertically aligned Arabic numerals and inscribed ALDRED & SON, G'T YARMOUTH to inner edge, the bevel-glazed case with hump-shaped green onyx upstand applied with scroll-shaped panel enamelled with foliate designs within a sky blue ground over repeating leaf complex top mouldings, the front with pin-hinged glazed door flanked by canted angles applied with gilt cherub-cast terms incorporating polychrome enamelled panels to uprights, the sides glazed and rear with further pin-hinged door, on generous skirt base with canted foliate scroll enamel decorated top moulding and leaf cast squab feet. 33.5cm (13.25ins) high, 25cm (9.75ins) wide, 15cm (6ins) deep.

A GEORGE II/III MAHOGANY EIGHT-DAY LONGCASE CLOCKTHE DIAL WITH A SIGNATURE FOR RICHARD PECKOVER, LONDON, MID TO LATE 18th CENTURYThe four finned pillar rack and bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by seconds pendulum, the 12 inch brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture to the matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with diamond lozenge half hour markers and Arabic five minutes to outer track, with scroll-pierced steel hands and twin-bird-and-urn cast spandrels to angles beneath added arch applied with a domed engraved silvered boss engraved Richard Peckover, London flanked by dolphin cast mounts, in a solid heavy mahogany case with concave-sided 'pagoda' superstructure fronted with a shaped foliate pierced fret over moulded break-arch cornice and hinged glazed dial aperture applied with three-quarter columns to angles, the sides with rectangular glazed windows and conforming quarter columns set against bargeboards at the rear, the trunk with break-arch door applied with complex edge mouldings over a plain plinth base with ogee top mouldings.229cm (90.25ins) high, 48cm (19ins) wide, 24cm (9.5ins) deep. Richard Peckover is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working first in 'Change Alley' in 1735 and then Royal Exchange in 1751 until around 1754. He is believed to have taken-on Quare and Horseman's business in 1733. Condition Report: Movement is complete and in working condition with no visible alteration to the mechanism, it is however a little dirty/neglected hence a clean and overhaul is advised. The dial has an 'added arch' suggesting that it originally was a square dial clock and later converted to arch dial. Bearing this in mind we cannot offer any assurances that it is by Peckover. The dial is a little dirty/tarnished but undamaged. The case has veneer patch repairs to the around the fretwork aperture to the superstructure - the curved top moulding has also been replaced with a simple curved strip (rather than the original cavetto profile). The base is lacking a skirt otherwise case is in sound condition with faults limited to relatively minor bumps and scuffs.Clock has two weights, winder, pendulum and a case key.Condition Report Disclaimer

A GEORGE III 'FIDDLE-BACK' MAHOGANY VENEERED BALLOON-SHAPED TABLE/BRACKET TIMEPIECEUNSIGNED, CIRCA 1800The unusual octagonal four knopped pillar single fusee movement with anchor escapement regulated by long lenticular bob pendulum with an effective length pf approximately 12.5 inches and incorporating stirrup-type regulation adjustment, the backplate with line-scribed border and pendulum holdfast clasp to lower margin, the 8 inch circular slightly convex cream painted Roman numeral dial with pierced steel hands set behind hinged convex glazed cast brass bezel, the arched waisted case with boxwood edging and veneered with a single continuous piece of 'fiddle-back' figured mahogany enveloping the top and sides, the front with flame figured veneer within a box line border and the rear with door matching the shape of the case inset with a circular glazed aperture set within the frame pf the case, on moulded skirt base with brass ball feet.47cm (18ins) high, 28cm (11ins) wide, 18cm (7ins) deep. Provenance:The property of a central London financial institution; acquired prior to 1925 to form part of a collection housed in a purpose-built prestigious Georgian style office building. Condition Report: Movement is in fine clean working condition with no visible evidence of alteration or noticeable replacements. The dial retains original finish with overall light crazing slight rubbing and wear; the centre has two re-touched scratches, the most noticeable is approximately 4cm long. The case is in very good original condition with notable faults limited to some relatively slight shrinkage cracking and movement as well as a few historic bumps, scuffs etc.Timepiece has pendulum, winder but no case key.Condition Report Disclaimer
