Provenance: The vendor's mother saw Geroge Formby perform and then asked for his autograph at the stage door and all she had was a small piece of paper, which he signed. The vendor personally obtained the signature of Mick Jagger in London, when he spotted Jagger coming out of a hotel and requested his autograph.

Lot 1773

A late 19th century freestanding French bowfronted glazed corner vitrine, with part glazed door above an inlaid panel of musical instruments and flowers tied by a ribbon, the shells in a claret upholstery, with gilt metal mounts all upon shaped legs. Height 158 cm, width 52 cm, depth 36.5 cm.

Lot 1754

A George III, mahogany kneehole desk, of small proportions, the rectangular top with a moulded edge above one long oak lined drawer with three short drawers to either side, all with brass drop handles and shaped brass escutcheons and with central cupboard door and with brass side carrying handles, all upon shaped bracket feet. 76 cm wide, 73 cm high, 44 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The desk is structurally sound. The top is of good colour with only minor old ring marks and blemishes. The sides of the desk both have minor stress fractures. Both carrying handles appear to be original and are secure. The backboards would appear to be original. All feet are in good order with the exception of the front right-hand return bracket which has a loss. The brass drop handles are all old they are however unlikely to be original. The centre lock escutcheon matches all of the drawer handles. The handles to the left and right of the top drawer are different. The drawer linings run from front to back. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1704

A mahogany Chippendale style display cabinet, the doors with wooden astragals, the base fitted with two short drawers and all raised on moulded legs with side stretchers. Width 78 cm, height 152 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in generally good order. The top is in good condition. There is a small scuff to the centre right of the crossbanded edge above the right hand door. All astragals are in good order as are all of the glass panels and shelves. The drawers have some minor surface scratches but no losses. The chamfered legs are all in good structural order but do have some edge nibbles and minor scratches. The right hand fretwork spandrel has a small loss. All other spandrels are in good order.

A 19th century mahogany bow fronted bedside cabinet, having a single oak lined drawer with turned ivory handles above a false tambour cupboard door, all upon four slender reeded legs. Width 43 cm, height 75 cm, depth 38.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally extremely sound. There are no loose joints. The timber colour is very good. There are no cracks to the carcass. The drawer runs smoothly and the cupboard door is not warped. There are no repairs to the legs.

An Edwardian mahogany longcase clock, the dial inscribed Maple and Co Limited London, the swans neck pediment and arched silvered brass dial with three train movement striking on a large gong and four gongs. CONDITION REPORT: The pot cupboard is in generally very good order. The marble is not cracked. The surround is in good condition. The door is not warped and closes and locks into place as it should. The plinth base is in good condition all round.

An Elliott of London eight day lever Westminster & Whittington chime grandmother clock, in walnut veneered case, with three-train movement and panelled trunk and base. Height 162 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in generally very good condition with only minor small scratches and marks. There are no splits and no losses. The door is not warped. The clock dial is in generally good condition and In particular the silvered chapter ring and numerals. The movement is currently fully wound on all three trains. It is not currently ticking. The movement appears to be very clean and complete. All gongs are present. The movement is clicking on the quarter half, three quarter and full but is not currently striking.

Lot 1894

A walnut veneered grandmother clock, early 20th century, with square silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and cherub spandrels, with three train movement chiming on five gongs, the hood with pagoda top flanked by turned finials above a blind fretwork frieze above quarter and half pilasters, having a well figured trunk door, all upon a plinth base. Height 154 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The numerals on the chapter ring are engraved but only very lightly. The movement winds on all three trains and appears to be striking correctly when advanced. The movement is currently ticking away but we do not have the lower section of the pendulum that hooks over the dumbbell. The case is in extremely good condition with no issues. We do not have a key for the trunk door which is currently locked.

Lot 1871

An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock, boxwood strung and with swans neck pediment above the arched painted dial and scene emblematic of farming to the arch, with two-train striking movement. CONDITION REPORT: This is an 8 day clock. The hood is in generally good condition, it is however very dirty. The glass to the door is cracked in two places. The long trunk door has a very slight warp at the bottom left hand corner. The base front edge bottom moulding is detached. The left hand return base moulding is missing. The movement winds on both trains and appears to be ticking. It strikes when advanced. We have the pendulum and 2 weights. The bell is missing. The dial is very dirty and has some paint loss. The numerals have been re-painted.

Lot 1853

An oak longcase clock, 19th century, the painted arched dial with subsidiary seconds and date dials, with eight day movement chiming on a bell, the hood with swans neck pediment and turned finial with Gothic arches to the sides and turned columns flanking the door with quarter columns to the trunk. 224 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains. It is currently ticking away and striking when advanced. We have both weights and pendulum. The case is in generally very good condition with no evidence of any woodworm past or present. The trunk door is not warped. The glazed door is not warped. The painted dial has some rubbing to the numerals but is generally in good order.

A Victorian Aesthetic period burr walnut serpentine credenza with shaped glass cupboards enclosing velvet-lined shelves flanking the central panel door with inlaid marquetry design, each separated by an ormolu-mounted and line-inlaid column, width 181cm.

Lot 1437

A fine late 19th century Vernis Martin ormolu mounted cabinet, with centre bombe glazed door flanked on either side by glazed panels and with cast bronze mounts, the base with Vernis Martin panels and raised on cabriole legs terminating in sabot feet. Height 200 cm, width 141 cm, depth +/- 52 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This cabinet is in extremely good condition. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. The door is not warped and closes as it should. All metalwork is present and of very good quality. The veneers are a good colour and there are no significant losses. The rear left-hand leg has a few veneer nibbles on the inside front edge. Other than this we can see no veneer issues. The backboards are original. The centre painted panel has a few minor scuffs to the paintwork. The planking panels are in extremely good order. The right-hand panel has one small paint loss. The left-hand panel has one small surface scratch but no other issues. It would be difficult to find a cabinet of this type in any better condition.

Lot 1310

A Regency mahogany side cabinet/bookcase, with centre shelves and glazed cupboards flanking. Width 198 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally very good condition. It is a good uniform colour. The top is in good order with only one minor faint watermark. The frieze is in good condition all around. Both side panels are in good condition with no splits. The doors are not warped and close as they should. The mirrored panels are showing slight evidence of perishing to the mirror plate but this is not significant. The left-hand door has a small veneer loss to the bottom right-hand corner. The left-hand pilaster is missing the very bottom moulding. All feet are original and in good condition. The backboards are original.

A mahogany wall mounted corner cupboard, late 18th/19th century, having a shaped and dentil moulded frieze, the panel door opening to reveal a single shaped shelf and two further plain shelves. width 67 cm, height 95 cm, depth 41 cm.

An early 20th century oak and inlaid triple wardrobe, having a shaped pediment above a central bevelled glass mirror door flanked to either side by arched doors with simple geometric inlaid decoration above three drawers and all upon turned bun feet. 172 cm wide, 208 cm high, 50.5 cm deep.

Lot 1410

A George III mahogany longcase clock by Barwise of Cockermouth, circa 1765, the hood with swans neck pediment and applied carved roundels above the arched glazed door flanked on either side by reeded pillars, and with blind fret carving above the long shaped crossbanded trunk door flanked by reeded quarter column corners, the base with canted corners and raised on bracket feet, with eight day striking movement and 13" arched brass dial with Indian mask spandrels, silvered chapter ring and Roman numerals. With centre date hand and inscribed Barwise Cockermouth. The arch with moon phase. Height including finial 238 cm. NOTE: Lott Barwise was born at Oulton Wigton in 1726 and died in 1779. He worked in Cockermouth from 1750. See Brian Loomes Clockmakers of Northern England pages 86/88 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: In our opinion this clock and case are not a marriage. The cheeks have not been cut nor do there appear to have been any strange alterations. The movement does have both weights and pendulum and is currently ticking away, striking and operating the moon phase. The case is in generally very good condition. There are some minor repairs to the fretwork collar beneath the hood but other than this the case is in first class condition. The door closes as it should and is not warped. There is no evidence of any woodworm. We have the winding and door keys.

Lot 1530

A pair of mahogany and walnut cabinets, each with single panelled door and brass handle raised on turned legs. Width 36 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both cabinets are in extremely good condition with no issues. There are no significant marks to the tops of either cabinet. The doors are not warped. The sides are in good order and all legs are original. The cabinets will have formerly been a dressing table and there is a visible line to the inside edge of both cabinets where they will have originally joined the dressing table centre.

A Victorian mahogany pedestal desk, with red leatherette writing surface and full width frieze drawer with compartmentalised interior, each pedestal fitted with three drawers and verso a panelled cupboard door. Width 146 cm, depth 74 cm.

Lot 1192

A George III single fusee walnut cased bracket clock by Weeks Piccadilly, with silvered dial and Roman numerals and bevelled glass to the top and side panels. Height 22 cm, width 16 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds and is currently ticking away. We do have a non-original winding key and we do have the original pendulum. We do have the door key. The case is in generally good condition with no significant issues. There are minor blemishes but no significant problems. The glass panels are all in good condition with no chips or losses. The movement appears to be all original and as stated it is ticking away. The silvered brass dial is in good order. The clock has come in for sale from a good local private estate and it has been in the current family's ownership for at least 60 years.

A 19th century mahogany freestanding corner cupboard, the moulded top above a fluted frieze in turn above a glazed door enclosing shaped and material lined shelves, all above two panelled doors above a plinth base. 97 cm wide, 204 cm high.

Lot 1495

A fine and rare astronomical oak and mahogany longcase clock by Edward Harriman Workington circa 1760-1770, with broken arch pediment and tapered pillars to the hood, with oak door crossbanded in elm and with Corinthian columns, the base with canted corners crossbanded in mahogany and raised on a plinth. Dial width 13", height 18½". The arch accommodates the astronomical work. Within and below the arch is a large ring approximately 8½" in diameter. This intersects the chapter ring. The periphery is marked in degrees to show the suns position in the heavens and engraved Amplitude Occa with effigies of the sun preceding these captions. Between the outer and inner ring a rotating disc carries the sun. The disc has a blue ground and is decorated with clouds. Between the two rings are shutters which are decorated with scenes of people, buildings and horses. These rise and fall throughout the year so that the sun always rises and sets at the correct time and pointers attached to the shutters give the actual time when this occurs. The left side of the inner ring is marked in degrees to show the suns declination north or south of the equator and right side indicates the sign of the zodiac. Within the inner ring the moon rotates with a silvered scale at its periphery and below the moon two globes are depicted with fine floral engraving. Height 88" (225 cm). NOTE: Edward Harriman was born circa 1700 in the Crosby area and was married in 1729. He moved to Workington in the early 1730's and made a few special clocks with astronomical dials and globe moons. He died in Workington in 1776 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is currently ticking away, striking and seems to be operating as it should. All pieces of the movement appear to be present. We have both weights, the pendulum, the winding key and door key. The clock is currently keeping good time. In our opinion the movement is original to the case and the cheeks do not appear to have been modified. The pediment is finished on the return with Greek keywork also. It has never had roundels. The case is in first class condition with no issues. The doors are not warped. The colour is very good. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1455

A Victorian mahogany bedside cabinet, with three quarter gallery and single door with applied mouldings opening to shelves. Width 52 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There are several minor ring and watermarks to the top which is in otherwise good condition. The sides, back and rear of the cabinet are all in good order. The door is not warped. There is a small section of moulding missing just above the left-hand upright moulding on the door front which should be visible from our image. The plinth base has some minor scuffs but no serious condition issues.

Lot 1245

An apprentice piece mahogany bowfront corner cupboard, with boxwood and ebony herringbone inlaid decoration, the door opening to reveal two shelves. 26 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: There are two small pieces of wood infilled to the rear, one is numbered 464, the other is stamped E. Smith. Overall this is in good condition with no obvious faults.

Lot 1565

An early 18th century style walnut veneered kneehole bureau, with book matched veneered top with herringbone stringing, the interior with a central cupboard door flanked by pigeonholes and small drawers with sliding well, all above the central kneehole cupboard flanked by three drawers and bracket feet. 76 cm wide, 99 cm high, 45.5 cm deep (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The desk is in extremely good condition with no issues. The top is in good order. The flap is not warped. The leather writing surface is in good condition as is the interior. All drawer fronts are in good order and all handles present. The centre cupboard is in good condition as are the bracket feet. Please note that this is not a period desk.

A 19th century oak double cupboard, the upper section fitted with pigeonholes and shelves, the lower section with single shelf, the doors with brass knob handles and all upon bracket feet. 58 cm wide, 143.5 cm high, 40 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in generally good condition. There are no warps to the doors. The top right-hand drawer has a small loss to the left-hand moulded edge. The interior shelves are present. The bottom right-hand door has 2 small holes indicating a previous handle. The left-hand return base moulding is detached but we have the moulding. The bottom door is missing its lock.

Lot 1308

A Regency mahogany longcase clock with movement by James Doig Edinburgh, with circular hood enclosing the eight day striking movement and with crossbanded trunk door flanked by quarter column corners. Height 206 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We have two weights and the pendulum. The movement winds on both trains and is currently ticking away. It is however very dirty and dry and not striking when advanced. The face has been dropped at some point and the dial has a slight crease to the left hand side. There is also some minor overpainting to the scroll pattern in places. The case is generally in fairly good condition with no significant issues. There are some very minor veneer nibbles but nothing serious. The trunk door is not warped. The backboards are original. There is a stress crack running vertically on the plinth. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

An early 19th century mahogany washstand, the hinged top above a dummy drawer above a cupboard door and single drawer, all upon turned legs. Width 51 cm, height 86.5 cm, depth 45.5 cm.

Lot 1810

An early 20th century walnut grandmother clock, having a domed hood above an arched brass dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and with eight day three train movement chiming on five gongs. 174.5 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: The clock has a Junghans B20 movement. It is currently ticking away however the movement does not strike when advanced. The left-hand facing train is fully wound. The centre train winds. The right-hand train appears to have a loose spring and is not currently winding. The face is in generally good condition and it does have engraved numerals. The movement does click when advanced but is not currently operating the strike. The case is in generally very good condition. The trunk door is not warped. There are no significant scuffs or marks to the case.

Lot 1452

A mid 18th century oak longcase clock by John Sanderson, Wigton, made for a Mr John Skelton circa 1741. The hood with flat top and opening door with half round dial beading. With long trunk door with original hinges and fastener. The brass plates have the owner details JMS and 1741. The movement has four turned pillars anchor escapement and is rack striking. The dial is 12" and is without spandrels. There is an engraved centre with inset moon dial and half round date dial. The floral engraved centre has a border and owners inscription John Skelton. Height 206 cm. NOTE: John Sanderson was born in 1671. His output was principally 30 hour clocks with only a few eight day. He died in 1748, further information can be found in Penfolds "Clockmakers of Cumberland" pages 81-84 and "Brass Dial Clocks" by Brian Loomes pages 392-409. CONDITION REPORT: The clock is 8 day and is currently ticking and striking as it should. The condition of the case is generally very good with no significant issues. The movement is in good order and appears to be working as it should. The clock could be enjoyed in its current state without the need for any work.

Lot 1748

An early 19th century oak and mahogany inlaid longcase clock, the painted arch dial with eight day movement, subsidiary seconds and date dials, inscribed for J.A.S. Will Laurencekirk, the hood with swans neck pediment and plain columns above a pointed arch trunk door, all upon a plinth base. Height 211 cm, width 49 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The case is in generally extremely good order and does not need any work. It is a good colour. Neither door is warped. The plinth base is in good condition. The backboards are original and there is no evidence of any woodworm. We have both weights and a pendulum. The clock is currently ticking away and striking when advanced.

Lot 1816

A Victorian walnut and inlaid pier cabinet, with applied gilt metal foliate corbals and having an upholstered interior, all upon a plinth base. 75.5 cm wide, 102 cm high, 31 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in extremely good condition. The top is of good colour but does have some minor stress fractures to the veneers none of which are significant. The ebonised edge is in good order as are both sides and the plinth. The door is not warped. The velvet lining is original. We have the lock and key.

Lot 1706

A 19th century mahogany tray top bedside cupboard, the upper section with turned supports above a well figured cupboard door, all upon square legs. 35.5 cm wide, 82 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition. The gallery is in good order. The recessed top is flat but does have a faint hairline crack running across the centre from left to right. There is no gap and no movement. The door is not warped. There does not appear to be any repairs or restoration. There are no significant marks or scratches.

A 19th century French inlaid rosewood freestanding display cabinet, the glazed top framed by inlaid rococo scrolls, the shaped glazed door with further inlaid decoration and on French ormolu rococo mounts, all upon slender cabriole legs with ormolu mounts at the knees and feet. Width 57 cm, height 111.5 cm, depth 37 cm.

Lot 1802

A 17th century and later inlaid court cupboard, with undulating frieze carved with florets and foliage, supported on bulbous cup and cover supports, the central door flanked by two further doors with floral arches and columns framing inlaid foliage decoration above a carved door in turn above cup and cover supports and potboard base. Width 126 cm, height 123, depth 57 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cupboard is in reasonably good condition it is however a little loose at the joints and there is movement when the piece is rocked from front to back. It is however serviceable. The top is constructed of planks which undulate and there is evidence of long gone very old woodworm. The frieze is in generally good condition all round. The centre door panel has some small pieces of inlay missing as do the right and left hand panels which also have stress fractures. The top of the base again has evidence of old long-gone woodworm. The frieze drawer beneath is very stiff. The left-hand bottom stile foot is a little soft to touch and appears to have woodworm which may still be active. The open potboard again is undulating and made from primitive planks. The right hand side middle shelf edge has a 3 cm square loss towards the rear. Again, there is evidence of old woodworm at this point.
