LABYRINTH (1986) - Left Door Knocker A left door knocker from Jim Henson's musical fantasy film Labyrinth. As Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) and Ludo made their way through the labyrinth, they encountered a set of double doors with talking knockers. The left knocker was hard of hearing thanks to the ring running through his ears, while the right knocker mumbled due to the ring being held in his mouth. This left door knocker is made of foam latex cast around a fibreglass base. It features a fibreglass door ring and a pair of fibreglass eyes held in place by elasticated mesh backings adhered to the interior, which allows the eyes to bounce and move with the door's movement. The knocker is finished in metallic brown-and-green paint to imitate the appearance of oxidised brass. The knocker has a bar of wood attached to the interior so it can be hung upon a door, and is presented on a varnished wooden wall-mount display provided by Tom Spina Designs, the company which previously restored the piece. This restoration includes stabilising damage, subtly patching small holes and cracks, and seamlessly touching up the aged paint and metallic colourations. The foam latex has hardened with age, exhibiting cracks around the edges of the knocker and around its eyes.
