Howe`, length of back excluding button 33.7cm, the oak case with an applied silver plaque, engraved `H.R.H Prince Arthur of Connaught 1890`, the interior with an applied vellum panel, inscribed `This case is made from a piece of old oak taken out of the Round Tower... The upper table of the violin in this case was made from an old door of Windsor Castle... Both the case and Violin were made and presented to H.R.H Prince Arthur of Connaught upon his return from India...`, together with a silver mounted bow. Note: Prince Arthur was born the seventh child and third son of Queen Victoria. He was the Commander-in-Chief of the Bombay Army from December 1886 to March 1890.

A number of areas of loss to enamel on case. Remnants of silver gilt, the majority is rubbed off. Inner rim of door is bent in places, so doesn't close tightly. Movement works, repeat and stike work.
