A South German walnut and cut pewter inlaid commode and matching tabernacle, second quarter 18th century, the upper section with serpentine front, central door flanked by seven drawers, the lower bowfront section with three long drawers, all inlaid with blue and black stained marquetry scrollwork, the sides inset with panels of flowers in vases, raised on pad feet, W.113cm D.57cm H.150cmThis looks to be a marriage although the marquetry is near identical, other features differ quite radically including the grain of the veneers, the handles and other stylised motifs, that said the match seems to work, overall in a well polished and rich golden toffee brown colour, upper sectin door has the original lock and an erratically working key, upper section is width 90cm height 66cm and depth 35cm. Lower section with old splits running across the top, various other rubbings and dents, brass knob handles are more ornate than those to the upper section, but the escutcheons do match, locks look original but no key present, drawers are lined in pine, both sides have vertical splits running through the veneers and what may well be later panels, seated on later pad feet.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place. An 18th Century French all steel flintlock pistol and church door key that can be transformed into a knife, contained within a mahogany writing box. The single barrel pistol of steel construction having the jaws, frizzen and hammer still intact. The large church key has a small lid that when unscrewed can be replaced with the spiked blade. All hidden in a compartment at the bottom of the mahogany case. Likely carried for self defence.

The Singer Museum in Laren & Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Torun featured Mierzejewski's work in the past. Artworks of Mierzejewski in this auction were directly obtained from the artistMIERZEJEWSKI, JERZY (1917-2012), ges. r.o. en gedat. '82 'Appels', doek 80 x 60 cm Mierzejewski is geboren in Polen, Warschau, als zoon van de schilder Jacek Mierzejewski. Hij studeerde voor de tweede wereld oorlog aan de Kunstacademie van Warschau. Parallel aan het schilderen begon hij in 1951 als professor aan de Poolse filmacademie. Zijn eerste internationale contacten met de schilderkunst dateren uit 1956. MIERZEJEWSKI, JERZY (1917-2012) "Diuny II / Les Dunes II" Canvas, 90 x 130 cm Jerzy Mierzejewski was a Polish Postwar & Contemporary painter who was born in 1917 in Warschau. The Singer Museum in Laren & Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Torun featured Mierzejewski's work in the past. Artworks of Mierzejewski in this auction were directly obtained from the artistMIERZEJEWSKI, JERZY (1917-2012), ges. l.o. en gedat. '78 Verso "Diuny II / Les Dunes II" en gedat. 1982 doek 90 x 130 cm Mierzejewski is geboren in Polen, Warschau, als zoon van de schilder Jacek Mierzejewski. Hij studeerde voor de tweede wereld oorlog aan de Kunstacademie van Warschau. Parallel aan het schilderen begon hij in 1951 als professor aan de Poolse filmacademie. Zijn eerste internationale contacten met de schilderkunst dateren uit 1956. Vele tentoonstellingen volgden, waaronder in het Singer Museum. In 1975 betrok hij een atelier in Haarlem. Sindsdien verbleef hij afwisselend in Haarlem en in Polen. Alle werken van Mierzejewski in deze veiling zijn door de vorige eigenaar direct bij de kunstenaar verworven.
