A second quarter of the 19th Century Mahogany cased 8-day Long Cased Clock, Behr – Lynn, the case with arched hood with reverse swan neck pediment and three gilt wood globe and spiked finials, over free standing columns to a moulded throat and long arched trunk door, flanked by ¼ columns, to a panelled plinth base, to a 12” third period painted dial, decorated to the arch with a Biblical scene, and spandrels painted as thatched country cottages amongst landscape and enclosing a Roman dial with outside minute track and enclosing subsidiary seconds with pierced and stamped Brass hands, to a movement with plates united by four knopped pillars and with anchor escapement, strike on a bell, height 8 ½”; (Lorenz Behr was murdered at Tittleshall on 18th Nov 1853 by William Thompson, who was also charged with theft from said person. Thompson aged 21 was executed at Norwich Castle on Saturday April 8th 1854 for the wilful murder of Lorenz Behr (this is said to be the last Public hanging in Norwich) – Norfolk and Norwich Clocks and Clockmakers, edited by Clifford & Yvonne Bird.
