His family owned successful watchmakers and retail jewellers in the most fashionable part of Leamington so it is likely he either retailed this clock or perhaps had it on display there. We believed the clock is somewhat earlier as the dial was made by Walker & Finnemore of Birmingham which dates it to between 1808 and 1811 when their partnership dissolved, we believe the movement may have been made by Samuel Deacon (1746-1816) of Barton in the Beans. The AHS published a small book called The Deacon Family of Leicestershire Clockmakers and it is clear from the book that the clock has many of Samuel Deacon's features such as the bell hammers, pin strike and baluster movement pillars. Although the movement is not numbered, Deacon's very detailed records are held by Leicestershire county records office and it may be possible to trace who it was made for and what tunes it plays. Deacon's workshop and tools survive in the custody of Leicester county museum
