Lloyd, Bristol beneath the 24" gilt painted dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, within a shaped moulded fluted surround, the trunk with moulded rounded arched door painted with three figures on steps before a pagoda entrance, with good original four pillar A frame movement, 60" high (pendulum, oval brass cased weight, crank handle winding key and two later gilded ball finials) ** This clock is in exceptional condition and retains most of its original paint ** The maker Philip Lloyd was a highly regarded Bristol maker and made several astronomical and other complicated clocks - see A.J. Drury, London Anno 1760 on the front plate, the 28" dial with Roman and Arabic numerals on a black Japanned surround enclosing a mahogany centre with hinged access to the movement, the trunk with glazed panels to the sides and with single hinged door to the right hand side, the lower case section also signed J. Drury London on a raised plaque over the mahogany curved top door (lacking the base of the case), 61.5" high (pendulum, two weights and keys) ** This clock was purchased from Sothebys Auction House on 26th February 1998 for £6000 (Lot 283) ** Copies of correspondence detailing restoration work undertaken on this clock by Thomas-Ellis Rees MBHI can be provided
