John Smith & Son, Derby, a Victorian mahogany tavern style or railway timepiece, John Smith & Son, Market Place, Derby; where the firm operated a high street retail shop in the late 1800s. The clock is mahogany-cased with a carved pediment & ‘ears’ and a glazed door. It has a 12” round painted dial, high quality, 8 day, weight-driven, timepiece movement with unusual, side-pulley line to carry the weight and a seconds-beat, ebonised rod pendulum. 153cm HCondition Report: Generally good condition, signs of scratches and wear to the dial, signs of loss to part of the arch moulding.

A VERY GOOD PAIR OF 19TH CENTURY EBONY, ORMOLU AND ENGRAVED BRASS PIER CABINETS, each having a classical design engraved copper frieze over a similarly decorated door, side panels and shaped plinth, both cabinets with ormolu caryatid figures and mounts. 2ft 9ins wide x 3ft 9ins high x 1ft 1.5ins deep.

A satinwood display cabinet, circa 1900, the glazed door enclosing adjustable shelves, 187cm high, 67cm wide, 38cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, Some old splits and cracks, some old chips, losses, and replacements to veneers, The door is glazed to the top two thirds, the base with a wood panel - the whole door opens enclosing the adjustable shelves. There is later putty to the interior of the glass, this is probably a later piece in any case. There is no key present, the door is held with masking tape whilst at Dreweatts, the lock is unlocked and is missing the catching element. this would need to be replaced in order to secure the door. No key is present, lock is open. One side with fixtures for shelves that are now lacking. Two of the doors opening to a hanging rail. A French gilt metal mantle clock in Empire style, unsigned, 19th century, the eight-day bell striking movement with outside countwheel and silk suspension with serial number 249 to backplate and with Roman numeral dial, the Neoclassical case surmounted by a globe, quiver and bow and flanked by cupid playing a lyre atop a pillar opposed by a standing male figure, the plinth base with further lyre and festoons above square feet, 50cm high overall Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, wear and dirt, discolouration and loose elements to the case. the cherub to the left hand side is detached and the column in its sections - there is no retaining bolt to hold together and is presented loose in the saleroom. This is how it has been during it's time at Dreweatts. the elements were balanced in place for the photograph. the other figure appears to be lacking his flute.There are two keys and no pendulum, Dreweatts have not tested the movement nor can give any guarantees of whether it is working or give any comments as to longevity. We recommend a full service and overhaul by a professional restorer prior to use. The movement is dirty and with signs of disuse. There is no bezel or rear door to the case. The central section with some screws poking through the back.There has been some later working, there is a later timber elements joining the internal trays and this hold the door catch. The lock is probably later. The drawers all with original handles. The trays are probably not original. A key is present and operates the lock to the central doors. All other locks are open. The lock to one side door is lacking. Overall this requires some attention before use in a domestic setting. A mahogany collector's cabinet, circa 1860 and later, in the form of a pedestal, the lancet shaped panel door enclosing arrangement of 13 graduated numbered short drawers, 83cm high, 55cm wide, 45cm deep Proceeds from the sale of this lot are to go to the British Heart Foundation.Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use,No key present, the door is open, it is slightly warped and bows out at the foot of the doorThe slides all with impressed numbers to the top of the drawers (almost certainly an original feature). some have the faint marks where labels have been previously to the drawer fronts. some other marks also. the handles all appear to be original, there is some in size and turning but this appears to be due to their hand turned nature. some with old cracks and splitsOne side has an area where the polish has been removed and there is staining and some filler. this would require a clean and a sympathetic polish to correct.
