He patented his distinctive chaff-cutter escapement in 1830 which enabled him to make affordable carriage clocks on a scale unknown before that time. This was the beginning of the Parisian carriage clock industry. He received the order 'Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur' from the French government in 1860 nine years before his death.
