Die Außenseite mit feinem goldgeprägten Leder bezogen, Messingbeschläge mit Resten von Feuervergoldung. Auf der Oberseite beweglicher Tragegriff aus Eisen mit Resten von Vergoldung. Klappe mit kleinem vergoldeten Schloss, der Schlüssel fehlt. Die Innenseite der Klappe mit eingelegter Platte aus Solnhofener Schiefer (gesprungen), der Rahmen mit feinen Marketterieeinlagen aus verschiedenen Obsthölzern, umlaufend Darstellung von Waffen und Musikinstrumenten. Kleiner Wurmschaden an der Oberseite. Das Innere mit sieben kleinen Schubladen um zentrale, abschließbare Türe. Schlüssel liegt bei. Die Schauseiten mit graviertem und geschwärztem Bein belegt. Die Türe mit Darstellung zweier Musikanten, auf den Schüben Darstellung verschiedener Instrumente. Originale Knäufe aus vergoldetem Messing. Maße 11 x 12 x 9,5 cm.Ein vergleichbares Kabinettkästchen, wohl aus derselben Werkstatt, befindet sich ein der Sammlung des Metropolitan Museums in New York.Zustand: II -A miniature cabinet, probably Nuremberg, circa 1600 Rectangular wooden cabinet on four ball feet of turned bone. The exterior covered with fine, gold-embossed leather, brass mounts with traces of fire gilding. At top a movable iron handle with traces of gilding. Flap with small gilt lock, the key missing. The inside of the flap with inlaid plate of slate from Solnhofen (cracked), the frame with fine marquetry inlays of various fruit woods, surrounded by a frieze of weapons and musical instruments. Slight worming at top. The interior with seven small drawers around a central, lockable door. Key included. The front sides of the drawers applied with engraved and blackened bone. The door depicting two musicians, the drawers adorned with various instruments. Original gilt brass pommels. Dimensions 11 x 12 x 9.5 cm.A similar miniature cabinet, probably from the same workshop, is housed in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York.Condition: II -

Including unassociated handle (pitted) and non-fitting (!) hollow shank key with pierced bow. Length of the lock 39.5 cm, with counter bearing 53 cm. A French oak buffet a deux corps19th century, 135cm wide; 208cm highCondition report: Overall wear and tear commensurate with age and use. Some shrinkage cracks to the panelled doors. Scuffs, scratches and marks to the top where the upper doors have swung out. The one door with hinge repairs, which require tidying and improving. Enclosing two shelves, one of which is split. Evidence of worm, with various holes. One small section of moulding missing to the front corner of the base plinth. One key present.

LINLEY; a pair of oak astragal glazed bookcase cabinets125cm wide; 244 high; (2)These bookcases were designed by David Linley and Matthew Rice circa 1986 and made a few years later. They are constructed from quartersawn English oak and finished with an oil.Condition report:There are three adjustable shelves to each glazed section of these bookcases.  The cupboards below contain one adjustable shelf each. Overall depth 53cm, top and bottom cupboards 40cm deep internal. Two handles loose. A few minor scuffs, minor marks, scratches and knocks commensurate with age and use. One small split to the top of the side return of one (see additional photograph). A few scratches to the surface below the one astragal door of the same bookcase. Very minor water mark to ledge of the second bookcase (see photograph).These are not stamped. Overall, very well constructed and in good condition.  ProvenanceThe2nd Earl of Snowdon.Thesesuperb quality bookcases were designed by David Linley and Matthew Rice. They were made in 1990 to furnish David Linley’s artist studio inBurlington Lodge House.  A similar pair were earlier exhibited by DavidLinley Furniture at the House and Garden Fair.Constructedfrom quarter-sawn English oak, with ebony handles and Cedar of Lebanon backs,they are of the highest quality.  The construction of the glazed doorsallowed for no tolerance in their manufacture with the highest precisionrequired for the glazing bars.
