A rare 17th century walnut eight day longcase clock by Charles Gretton circa 1685-1690 from the William & Mary period, the hood with glazed door enclosing 10 inch dial with simple gilded cherub spandrels, silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, silvered subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, engraved for Charles Gretton London to base of dial, the walnut veneered case with two glass panes to side of hood, with pendulum, weights and keys, 200cm high x 49cm wide CONDITION REPORT: Lot 259 - Period item though cannot guarantee both movement and case match, it was brought in by a collector, no further information on previous owners, top finials missing, repair to fretboard, slight chip to pediment on right hand side, slight abrasion to wood under frieze/top of left column, face door slightly loose at top but still secure, chapter rign slightly discoloured around black decoration with minor marks/scratches, minor marks and scratches allover commensurate with age, holes to back of trunk where knots in wood along with smaller screw holes/nail holes, minor air bubbles under walnut veneer to trunk door, minor chip to wood at base on right hand side.
